Another interesting finding is that wagnerianus, so far, looks like it might be even hardier then fortunei (even hardier then the nainital or fortunei with the SFH trait, somewhere in the neighbourhood of -21C)... Just thought I'd throw that in there. Oh, and I recall someone showing a picture of a...

Also, I got advised to do Tex and Birmingham too, but where can I get them? I know Gary has them but I can't get down there (don't drive) unless it was a pooled order... Your better off purchasing a plant. They are much more hardy with age and they grow extremely slow. I just bought a 3 gallon this summer from Gary in New Bern, NC. He doesn't ship palms mail order. Plantdelights.com and amazinggardens.com have plants available. I would try http://chillypalmtree.com/...

Both of my sons have had Apples for quite a few years. The cost is still in the same range as the upper end PCs and their repair experience has been nil. During the same period I have had a virus and had 2 PCs require replacement or repair before I needed a more modern machine. After taking into co...

I just bought one this year. It doesn't have the the trait that Barrie's has (maybe that will be extra hardy!). Hopefully it survives here but it most likely won't be looking good if it does (Pretty wet Zone 7) I will probably throw something over it is the temperature goes below 15F. Pic: http://im...

Within the next year or so, we will semi retire this machine and purchase an Apple. With any luck, I will never have to use Vista. Allen I wouldn't get an Apple unless you like to give your money away. Macs are overpriced and use a couple proprietary parts. If your motherboard dies in an Apple, you...

Wait until late spring to plant cold hardy palms. It gives them time to establish. My suggestion would be Sabal Minor. Its tolerant of drought, floods, loves heat and can take extreme cold once established. Here are Trachycarpus growing in Delaware (few miles from my house): http://img216.imageshack...

Palmetto should do fine in swampy areas. They are native to areas that flood and as already pointed out, Sabal Minor grows in swamps in many parts of its range. Palmettos are easily hardy to Zone 8 with a good amount of heat. The Texas Palmetto (Sabal Texana) is native along water ways in Southeast ...

This may be a real beginner's question, but since the soil close to the base of the tree is still fairly loose from planting, how would it work to stick the hose down in the ground about a foot or so and let it soak this way for a while every few days? Water should be applied around the drip line (...

My guess is that the root system still hasn't recovered fully. Since you've been having a drought, the root system cannot supply enough water to the leaves which is causing them to die. Unless you give it a long watering (couple hours) to allow the water to penetrate deeply, only the top 1-3inches w...

I planted Wagnerianus and Takil here in Zone 7. It will be their first winter this year. I'll let you know how they turn out. T. Nanus hardiness isn't known so far.
