Another interesting finding is that wagnerianus, so far, looks like it might be even hardier then fortunei (even hardier then the nainital or fortunei with the SFH trait, somewhere in the neighbourhood of -21C)... Just thought I'd throw that in there. Oh, and I recall someone showing a picture of a...

What was labeled Takil is now known as Trachycarpus Fortunei "Nanital" after DNA tests found that is was a Fortunei. They all have the SHF (Slope Heave Frost) trait and the leaves are more round and thick. Now there are reports that the real Takil have been found and are available for sale...

Your better off purchasing a plant. They are much more hardy with age and they grow extremely slow. I just bought a 3 gallon this summer from Gary in New Bern, NC. He doesn't ship palms mail order. Plantdelights.com and amazinggardens.com have plants available. I would try http://chillypalmtree.com/...

Wait until late spring to plant cold hardy palms. It gives them time to establish. My suggestion would be Sabal Minor. Palmetto should do fine in swampy areas. They are native to areas that flood and as already pointed out, Sabal Minor grows in swamps in many parts of its range. Palmettos are easily hardy to Zone 8 with a good amount of heat. The Texas Palmetto (Sabal Texana) is native along water ways in Southeast ...

Sabal are hardier with more summer heat. So a Sabal in British Columbia, will not be able to tolerate temperatures as low as one growing Kansas (one "McCurtain" was said to survive -24F/-31C in Wichita, although the reading was most likely from a different location) Most people rate Sabal ...

Cut off any completely dead areas. Do not cut off anything that has some sort of life to it.

The dead material can be a good area for disease to develop and break it down (which can spread to living tissue when the plant is weak).

I use Propiconazale (systemic fungicide) which I buy from Bonide (named Infuse).

Since its systemic, it makes the plant toxic to fungus.

Copper is poisonous when too much is used so I would use it only to treat a large problem.

My guess is that the root system still hasn't recovered fully. Since you've been having a drought, the root system cannot supply enough water to the leaves which is causing them to die. Unless you give it a long watering (couple hours) to allow the water to penetrate deeply, only the top 1-3inches w...
