I use copper based fungicide,(some like to use hydrogenperoxide)and try to keep the cavities dry.

It is about 50% or more browned out but all the branches are aliveand it was very busy underground last year......check it out.got about 6 runners,one...

My thermometer read 15F,the one in the Cactus garden had 12F,judging by the lack of damage,this seems more accurate.
