yucca Elata X Filamentosa hybrid
hello everyone, I just wanted to share a couple of pics of my baby yucca "Elata X Filamentosa" 1 month old and I got 2 more that germinated monday and also today
the second leaf is a bit twisted but the little one looks healthy, I will bring it under the grow lights this coming winter for maximum growth, I have lots of equipment that I used on my baccatas, rostratas and glaucas that gave me satisfactory results.
<img border="0" alt=""src="http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m92/ ... jpg"></img>
UPDATE: here it is now at 39 days (august 22), it has received only sunlight.
<img border="0" alt=""src="http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m92/ ... jpg"></img>
should I call it "Elatosa"? what do you think?
also I have 10 seeds of this cross that I'm willing to trade for seeds of another trunking hybrid that can withstand my cold weather, a cross with filamentosa is ideal or some yucca "glauca X baccata" hybrid seeds
cheers
Edwin

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Thanks Aaron, I have now a total of 16 seedlings! (16 out of 20 seeds, 80 % germination rate) I already put them into individual pots, from my past experiences it makes them grow faster also these ones will stay under the grow lights until next spring, they are receiving 14 hours of constant light ( dual gro-lux 3500k each) and a fan is blowing 24/7. my second oldest seedling which is 20 days younger than my first one has already 2 leaves. and some of the younger ones a month behind from the first seedling that is receiving only sun light are already pushing their second leafDesertZone wrote:Nice job, a few years from now and they will be awesome!

Update on my yucca Elata X filamentosa F1 hybrids: just repotted my biggest one ( 28 leaves ) which I will be calling "elatosa" # 2......it has grown some nice roots, check it out:
<img border="0" alt=""src="http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m92/ ... jpg"></img>
<img border="0" alt=""src="http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m92/ ... jpg"></img>
This yucca is only 6 months old and has never seen true sunlight, it was born indoors & stayed indoors under the grow lights.
<img border="0" alt=""src="http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m92/ ... jpg"></img>
I still have 9 other "elatosas" including # 1 seedling that spent 1 month+ outdoors but hasn't grown much (8 leaves & small) .....I had a spider mite infestation & lost 5 seedlings while the others that survived lost many leaves, only my biggest one remained invulnerable to those nasty tiny bugs
I can't wait for summer to arrive so I can bring them outside!!

Wow, look at the roots on that!
I've only ever had spider mites on palms, never yuccas.
But fungus gnats are legendary in my house...flying up your nose when eating dinner.
Sorry you lost seedlings to mites.
To achieve that dark green leaf colour, presume you use full spectrum light.

yeah, the thing is I bought an areca palm from IKEA and it was full of spider mites under the leaves (negligence on my part ), it quickly spread to the yuccas since with the fan those tiny pest travel with easeI've only ever had spider mites on palms, never yuccas.
thanks, at least I still have 10 seedlings leftSorry you lost seedlings to mites.
yes, it's full spectrum but I have just begun experimenting with blue leds, it's supposed to give a boost in stem & leaf growth. To achieve that dark green leaf colour, presume you use full spectrum light.
