You've all seen my chickens. While they do damage foliage of plants, mostly that is a by-product of their eating the herbivorous insects eating the foliage.
This month, I've been plagued by socks. Socks the goat. He was born in March. I didn't castrate him as a buckling I castrated in January died of infection, and I figured that this little guy was going to the butcher in September anyways so why risk it.
Anyways, he has figured out how to get through the fence into my garden. He first wrecked the Camellia. I didn't mind his trimming it up, but then he split the trunk. Doubt it will recover. He has nibbled the Aucuba and Punica, and now is going to town on the Hibiscus.

The best I can say about Socks is that he doesn't eat palms.

Glad he's not touched your palms, Erik.
But that nice Canna lily is close too.
Doubt two things would keep him out of there: a leash OR castration.
A goat will eat the bumper off a Ford truck.
I'm all for the chickens!
Good luck.

If you drink, don't drive. Don't even putt.
Socks the buckling and eight of his siblings went to the butcher Thursday. 👿
His dad, Luke, and four mature does stayed on to give us our next crop. From our guesstimate of mating dates, we should have kids on the ground in early January. Again. When it is very cold. Here. Hope to be sitting under a Cocos about then.
When I was in the palm garden today, I noticed this leaf of a Colocassia touching the electric tape now powered by that new fence charger W installed. It worked flawlessly to keep goats out of my garden. Here is what it does to EE leaves:

Luke + 4 reprieved ... mid-winter kids again?
quite the hardship for W when you're away.
I remember last winter 😕
But if summer's so hot that chickens die, it's a toss-up as to the best time.
Poor EE...

This should put this thread to bed for good.

I just sold all eight goats to a teen-age boy (and his dad). He wants to raise goats as a business. We loaded the entire herd into his dad's cattle trailer this evening. Here they are:

They did nearly as much damage to my palms as the cold did. New home has pasture and no palms 😆
Congrats Erik on selling all of them.
That cattle trailer will be a bit chewed by the time they arrive home (tastes better than palms). 😆
The Craig's List ad sure worked!
So...are you buying chickens? or palms? 😉
