I had to look up CORONAL HOLE.
This pic of the sun took my breath away.

Certainly a smaller hole than the 2002 image I provided.
Hopefully that's a good thing 😐

That is a good thing!
( especially for power grid & satellite operations )
On the LASCO C3 images you can sometimes view comets swinging by the sun.

At the risk of sounding flippant, Steve, what do these sunspots and geomagnetic storms mean to us?

Barb,
Here is a page that describes some of the impacts,

And, in a circuitous fashion, this may qualify under the "Weather & Climate" heading ( besides, I've found something to do with the updates they keep sending me 😆 😆

I had always heard that telecommunications could be affected, among other things.
We're on Satellite TV and in the 15 years it's been on our roof, it's never "gone out, or frizzled".
Actually it did black out one night...when it snowed one foot of big wet heavy flakes.
Under "space weather images", I clicked on A solar storm, aurora from space, and aurora on Earth on the TIF file.
Wow, that was spectacular.
I guess my electronics aren't "sensitive" enough (cheapo models) to be affected.
Do you see local problems after solar activity starts up?
The only time we have a power outage (population 35,000) is when a drunk driver hits a power pole...hard.
You're right...it's one more aspect like tracking regular weather.
