It has been very warm and sunny over the last week and the snow is gone where it is fully exposed to sun and/or wind. I was about to start doing last fall's yard work of moving plants and shrubs when I thought that I had better check the weather forecast.
Depending on who you believe, The forecast is for -8/-15 C and -10/-17 C for April 2nd and 3rd. So much for spring. My fall work is going to have to wait until after the first week of April.

That sucks! I wonder how accurate your forecasts are? Around here we get mainly accurate forecasts for 3 days. After that point the percentages drop conciderably. Even if thery're not right the weather isn't too far from wrong because there's no drastic changes in weather.
Cheers, Barrie.
It may not get that bad, but it will be interesting. The Jet Stream has slumped south all the way to New Mexico and right now arctic weather is sliding south. The only way to stop it would be for a powerful High pressure system to move inland from the coast. Fat chance of that. You poor buggers are up to your knees in rain.
BUT:: If you all face east and blow, maybe you can chase out the rain storms and drag in some sunshine to dry you out and warm us up. 😆

I'm for that, Allen.
A couple of days ago the forecast for Edmonton was snow, and I thought I could hear you swearing... 😯
We're warmer now...10 to 12 daytime, not quite near zero at night, but man the winds in our exposed location are brutal.
Very strong winds, bloody cold if you're not digging a hole! My other plants will have to wait.

Believe it or not we have had three full days of sunshine here in Vancouver. Everything has dried out. I cut the lawn today and enjoyed the 14C sunshine.
Wes North Vancouver Zone 8b/9a
Keats Island BC Zone 8a
Palm Springs CA Zone 9b/10a
We've had very little rain in comparison to other nearby regions. Some BC mainland areas are reaching maximum water table levels. The "Flats" of Richmond and South Delta are a swamp. A buddy of mine that works for the City in that area says if the spring run off from the Fraser River happens too soon, the dikes may not be sufficent. The rainfall totals he gave me where very high, with 2 days of 100mm each day plus heavy days abutting those last week.
Here it's wasn't bad at all as the rain mostly escaped this part of Vancouver Island. The past few days have been nice and I've had planty of garden work done.
Cheers, Barrie.
Cutting the lawn is something i don't want to do yet. 🙁 But i think i might have to this weekend. I have recorded only 1.66 inches of precip. at my place since January 1.
Regards,
Jay
Thanks Wes. You made my day.
While you were out there slaving over a Lawn mower, I wasn't.
No grass to mow. The only grass I have gets sprayed with Round Up. 😈

Wow, tons of rain for greater Vancouver (nice you had that sunshine break, Wes). Barrie, you're in a bit of a rainshadow I believe?
Jay, we got even less than you, drier than a bone, just mowed the lawn and I got more DUST than grass in the catcher. 😡
Cough cough (time to stop for a cigarette) 😳
Breeze is still cool but the sun's packin' some heat already.

Barb, I hear ya. It's pretty dry here too. Most of that precip was back in Jan. 🙂
Yup, Jay, can't believe how dry it is.
Dug a hole 6 inches deep (I divided some blue fescue 😀 and only at the bottom was the hole damp).
Unbelievable after that ton of snow we looked at for four months!
We Okanagan folks get to enjoy SNOW Sunday & Monday, with a low of -5. Poop.

Maybe we should trade soil Barb.
I started spring cleanup today and lasted about an hour. Carrying all that mud on my shoes was exhausting. I learned the hard way that there are just some places in the yard that are too wet to walk in. I also learned that muddy socks provide good traction on ice and stick to garage walls.
My Irises are almost all sprouting and the German Irises came through the winter still green. I'm gong to go out in the morning and try to find a 15' handle for my rake.
THANKS to all of you BCites. You blew hard enough that the jet stream moved and it is only supposed to get down to -6 C instead of -15C 😯

Allen, Ok if you take my rocks too 😀
Your socks stuck to garage walls ??!! 😆 😆 spiderman, ha!
Man, with a 15' rake handle, make some chiropractor appointments. Ouch. Good for the beltline though.
Blow it back on the weekend when we cool off yet again.
Iris is a pretty tough plant...good to know they like the Prairies too.
Winter + rhodos (to make you feel better about yours). They hate our alkaline soil and I always forget to sprinkle Epsom Salts at their base (which would be a good quick annual fix). Hence ugly. But probably alive.
And a periwinkle opened up amid the english ivy (which is growing up the house wall and UNDER the siding) 👿 .
Happy raking, Allen!

Wellllll.
I walked into a new flower bed that I put in last fall. It was dry on the surface, but I sunk over 6" into the mud. I left the shoes in the mud when I pulled my feet out. I walked sock footed through the rest of the flower bed and across the snow and ice covered patio to my back steps carrying my muddy shoes.
My wife met me at the back door and we started trash talking about my gardening skills and intentions of coming in the house. I sat on the steps and cleaned mud off my shoes, not well enough to bring them inside. When I was told to leave my socks outside with my shoes, I pulled them off and threw them at the garage wall. 1 stuck for a few minutes, but both fell into a new flower bed. It will be a week at least until it dries enough to retrieve them. I still have not found that 15' rake handle.
Your rhododendrons look a little worse for wear but alive.
I am going to start blowing now and hopefully you will get our 1 or 2 nice days and some snow/rain mixture out there.

Allen, your wife's a saint!
And probably has a good sense of humour too. Definitely needs it, huh?
