Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

So, im sure you guys seen my low of -20C and thought (what the hell, thats COLD). Well relatively speaking, yes... but generally no. The bay hasnt even frozen. The ice level is so low the boats are still docking!!

Thanks for that nice pic, Jesse.

But once the Bay gets cold, it stays cold 😉
Maybe some ice fishing in May?

Barb, you are right.... I hate wintry windy March and cold sunless April in Toronto but enjoy the same season in Almaty KZ.

Barb

The lake used to freeze over every year in the 60s and 70s, every 2 years in the 70s and 80s, every 5 in the 90s, and its only froze over once in the last 10 years here.

ALso, believe it or not, we cant ice fish here past march or april (round the city). There is either NO ice at all, or its really unstable. The bay has the ice breakers run through around march or april as well...

Either way..... if it wasnt for Lake Supirior, id be at least 10C colder during the winter, and 5 -10C warmer in the winter..

Since were on the topic... the Lake supirior has the same temperature ALL year round (48F),and varies either .5C or 1C during a very hot summer

So far though, im a warm zone 6 winter so far!!!!! I have to see what january has in store!

And again, merry christmas 😀

I'm sure if I have a couple of beer, I'll understand that.

Fingers crossed for a mild January for you.

Happy Ho Ho, Jesse.

LOL

The lake makes us warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer then areas away from the lake. If youre away from the lake, its the opposite: Colder in the winter, and hotter in the summer. The lake keeps a more constant temp then the ground does so it buffers the effect of the continental climate near the shore.

Ill put it this way.... 10 km from the lake is zone 3. 15 or 20 km away is zone 2. There are zone 5 or higher microclimate all around the lake shore and in valleys between the flat topped mesas that surround the city. There is a native population of red leaf maple here in some areas, which IIR are zone 4 - 5 trees!

Well, my Low is still only - 20C (at the airport). I think thats a zone 6 ATM, but ill have to wait till end of january/fenruary to see how bad the winter was.

On the bright side, im pretty sure we broke the record for today, 6C.

Jesse, OK got it now 😉

Bryce, we have to get it some time...otherwise nothing'll be coming out of our taps/hoses next summer. 😥

Makes me wonder WHEN it's coming. 😕
