Finally ... Rain! 😀 At least through the afternoon and early evening last night. The big thaw is on and time to dig out the smaller palms and plants from the heavy wet snow.

Cheers, Barrie.

Thank goodness it's milder!
Hope your plants are fine, Barrie.
How about a pic of rain on your palms?

The Okanagan's in for more snow during the next 3 days.
We're running out of places to put it all!

Suppose I should be grateful for this stuff's insulating value during the recent Arctic Blast.

At -5C 23F today, it was nice to handle a camera again without FROSTBITE 🙂

Barb looks like you got better than a foot of snow a little more than what we got over the last 2 weeks. It was +1.4c Saturday and already +1.7c 11:00 am. Looks to be a return to near normal temps for this time of year +1c and -6c overnight. Barrie any damage after the big melt on the coast?

Well John, it's much too early to tell on the marginal plants and palms. Quite often it's May before any real accessments can be made on borderline material.
Trachycarpus fortunei are no problem at all once the smaller ones can be dug out from the snow accumulations. What a mess 🙄 .

Cheers, Barrie.

Yet ANOTHER snow storm ... I'll be digging out again 😡

It blows me away that we're often 4 or 5 degrees colder than you, John.
You've also got the "heat sink" going for you, being on the edge of a city.
We're out in the boonies.

Barrie, your trachies look great! Look at what they've endured!
Even the "squished one" 😆

Vernon BC Canada:

Dec. 20th Low of -27.8C (-18.04F) was coldest since 1921.

My place didn't quite get there...but close:

87 years! Holy...
It's currently zero C...get out the lawn furniture. 😆

Barb ... we had a serious drop in temp overnight on Dec. 19 when the low was 13.0°F (-10.6°F). Airport readings where horribly lower ... -19°C (-2.2°F), now that's insane around here. Fortunately we didn't get that extreme here. I'd be hard pressed to believe that could ever happen.

Cheers, Barrie.

Ya, who would've thought it possible, especially on the Coast?
The wind chills were devastating everywhere.

Let's hope that's it for another 87 years...

24 straight days of cold ... absolutely unheard of here. Well they weather guys PROMISE that will end tomorrow. I'll believe it when I see it after all we've been through. The past 10 days have been at or just under freezing at night and daytime temps not much better. Snow off and on with the latest falling yesterday afternoon and early evening (another 3" of heavy wet slushy snow).
Now we have January to look forward to, traditionally our coldest month. 😐

Cheers, Barrie.

Barrie,
Heavy rain in store for the Coast?

Vernon had another 6-8 inches snow overnight.
We're running out of places to dump the snow 😆

Roads are brutal, even the highways.

My wife visited her daughter in Alberta during the Christmas holidays. The city there is / was considering aquiring a machine that would collect and melt the snow, discharge it into the strom drains.

"A strong onshore flow of moist sub-tropical air will follow the warm front bringing heavy rain to the west coast of Vancouver Island as well as Howe Sound the Fraser Valley and Greater Vancouver tonight through Wednesday. Amounts of up to 120 mm are possible along the southwest side of Vancouver Island and the Fraser Valley. Amounts of 50 to 75 mm are expected for Greater Vancouver and Howe Sound. The rain should ease late Wednesday as the flow of moist air slumps south into Washington state."

Looks like we'll be spared the worst of it here on the SE coast of the island.

Cheers, Barrie.

Hey guys,
Guess it's our turn now! Looks like we'll hit 0f (-18C) here next monday... Or at least that's what they're calling for now. My place in Sydenham has hit -19C and will apparently drop to -24C on Monday night...
