3 days below freezing! I doubt it will be that severe... The Trachys will shrug it off, but I do look forward to reports from our PNW members on how different plants deal with the freeze.
Good luck to those out there, and hopefully it stays warmer then predicted!

Locally the forecasters aren't giving it quite the event that is shown on the "Weather Network". The coldest predicted night will be Monday with -8°C (17.6°F) at the airport. I think we will see -6°C (21.2°F) around here that night, still too cold for me. We'll see how the plants manage. Most have been through this before several years ago. I know Seattle and Portland are gearing up as well.
The Canadian praries and the Northern plain states will be in for some brutally cold weather (-30°C overnight) Brrrrrrr!!!

Cheers, Barrie.

Holy cow, woke up to winter!

The dog wanted back into the house after 15 seconds. 😆
Power went out twice briefly.
Howling winds now and drifting snow.

The next week is gonna be brutal. Where is that global warming? 😥

Hey Barb ... they've rephrased it now and it's refered to as "Climate change".

We had about an inch of snow and then it rained the rest of the afternoon and into the night. I was at work yesterday and no snow there only rain.
A bit breezy this morning with temps about 2°C (35°F) ... no precip and some sun off and on.
Best of luck out there. Perhaps your namesake will bring more moderating temps.

Cheers, Barrie.

It was mild here too last night, -1C, slushy roads.

I may change name to Ice Age 😆 😆

Temp has dropped almost 10 degrees in a few hours.
Wind's still howling:

Holy s%#t... You can keep that stuff up there... We are supposed to be back to normal this week with highs in the 60-70's and 40's at night.

Haven't seen anything like this in 20 years!

Is the house next door to you for sale, Todd? 😆 😆

Damn. It looks like you will be lucky if you get up to 32F at all this week.

Ya Todd it doesn't look good. This is a deep low with Arctic air invading much of the Northwest.
Here's the latest (in Celcius ... to covert to Fahrenheit, multiply by 1.8, add 32.)

BITTER is the best way to discribe this morning, and the worst is yet to come 😯
-7°C (19.4°F) and not above freezing in the next 7 days. This is a monster Arctic low dipping well into the US mid section and apparently will remain stationary for some time. Once it does move, it will enevitably shift eastward.

Apparently the worst day will be 5 days from now...

Updated 10-dayer (Celcius):
The white line at very top of chart is normal temps

http://www.theweathernetwork.com/index.php?product=fourteenday&placecode=cabc0312&ref=wxeyewx14day

We can all struggle through.
I always feel sorry for wildlife when it's very cold.

Fill up the bird feeder, folks!

Barb,
Good luck! Did you plant out any 'tender' plants this year? If so, this will be a good test!
Barrie, keep us up to date on how your plants deal with the prolonged freeze (I saw it went above 0 yesterday, though). Data from you folks in the 'tropical' zones is very useful for those of us in the 'arctic'!!!

Our temps will also be below average for the next bit, though not as severe as those in the west (YET): http://www.theweathernetwork.com/fourteenday/caon0349 (Kingston)
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/fourteenday/caon1761 (Local Toronto station)

Perhaps we should start a winter long thread to report low temps, and compare to average??

Thanks Paul,
Re plants outside...nope, I chickened out in October and dug up my big expensive new Y.rostrata. I'm glad I did.
The winds we had would have dismantled its protection.
It's now back in a big pot in the "cold building", at a balmy 10C 50F.

Vernon's new 10-dayer, WAY BELOW NORMAL:

If I EVER again complain about the heat of summer, somebody kick me...hard... 😉
