Yes it's coming, the "W" word is not far off , or at least it feels like it. Not to worried about my Trachys or my queen but my large Christmas and my coconut I am worried about. Outside temp is forecast to be 8, so in the outskirts where I am, I am thinking 4-6 maybe. I have hot flood lights on my coconut to keep it a little warmer but I am afraid it will be time to start bringing them in at night. What a pain.
Does anyone have a queen palm? If so, in your experience, how cold should I let it get before I take it in?
Thanks.........

If by "W" you mean warm, then we have it here right now.
September is almost a shoe in for good weather on Vancouver Island.
Cheers, Barrie.
Like Barrie said September is also a great weather month here in Vancouver. Highs have been mid to high twenties and lows around 12 to 15C

hahaha...warm!! NO...the W word is winter. Cold!!...Here in Ontario this is the start of our cool down, where we go from 30 degree days consistantly to 15 degree days within a week. Saturday is calling for a high of 15....low of 6. Brrrrrrrr....we usually get a warm up again but not till begining of October. I have a feeling it will be a early winter. I would trade the cold winter with lots of sun here for the cloudy wet WARM winter in B.C anyday.
Come on sun. 😆
W is for worry, Arctic Palm, 😕
The Okanagan's been as dry as popcorn for...lemmee see...bet about 5 or 6 weeks.
Not a drop. And only 2 cloudy days in that time. UV index is at the top of the chart.
25 to 27 degrees, 12 to 15 overnight. Too dry.
This huge high pressure ridge will make its way east, cheering up our Alberta friends and, eventually,
you folks in Ontario.
Everyone around here is saying that since April was so darn cold, we'll have summer into October.
My badge of honour is my house's front lawn.
Even the weeds are dying. 😈

Woke up to 5 degrees. Brrr. Now I look at the forcast and we are going back up to over 30 with humidex but this morning I have the heat on and I brought in my coconut. Thankfully the local highschool is going to take in my large palms for winter. They have a actual greenhouse so they stand a chance.
I see some temps out west are at or below 0......goodluck everyone!!
No temps even close to freezing here.
Are talking about the praires?

here in Ontario, the praires is out west. Vancouver is the west coast.
Just to clairfy
Arctic, great deal with the high school taking your palms in over the winter.
What a good idea.
Do you go in and care for them...or does the janitor water 'em? 😉

Actually, they will become part of the horticulture program there. They will be taken car of by students and thier marks will be based on how well the palms grow. I donated a bunch of my Musa Basjoo babies and a few washingtonia seedlings. Not a bad price if you ask me.
My Christmas palm that a have been nursing back to health all summer should look great by april. The teacher told me that high schools and Colleges are always looking for new specimens for thier programs. Just an idea for everone out there.
What a boon for those of us who have either run out of space ... vertically and horizontally.
I've never heard of it in my area.
But if I can't get my 31 year old jade tree in the door, I'll ask at our college.
Thanks for the tip!

Post some pics of your hardies...?
Palmettoman Z6-Ajax, On
The over night low was 2 degrees. Pretty darn near a frost. I had my coco inside and my christmas wrapped up with 3 flood lights on the crown. We all know the trachys are fine and the Bizmarch and pindo should be fine too. Not sure about the musa's. Of course a warm up is on the way...I will post as soon as I find some batteries for my camera and stop leaving it on.
I will post them in the picture gallery part.
