Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Finally happening here too, Aaron.
At long last.
Happy growing, everyone!
Let's see those palms and cycads explode with growth! :bounce:

Have no chance climbing up to the hills for taking pictures of the peonies but... Look at these ones:

Igor,
lovely.
Nothing blooming here now--poor planning by me.
As we are moving on to May, hopefully the snow is past us.
It is 7 C and raining now, and the low of 3 C tonight means no snow for many months! 😀

Thank,s Erik... There is everything blooming as crazy here. Magnolias, forsitias, apricots, plums, peaches, pears are done. Apples and prunus cistena - almost done. Looking forward for tree peony, climbing hydrangea, climbing honeysuckles.
Even we've entered in May we would haven't been guaranteed of being blasted with a cold spell. Some years it would be happened until the May 20th. That's why I do not plant my bananas, palms and etc. into the ground. At least 10 days of waiting.

Gorgeous pics Igor, thank you.

Your area is definitely ahead of ours 👿
Hope we catch up quickly after this horrible long winter...maybe we'll have spring now 😉
Erik,
You've had such heat already.
Think you had summer, now spring is coming.

You, guys, the Northern Americans, have a long lasting fall. You know it's a kind of a super compensation. No worries, Barb!

Normally, yes, Igor.
But the last couple of years...Fall has been short, and the following Springs have been cold.
Makes people feel cheated of at least a month.
And the western coast of North America is cooling...darn it.
Mexico has had two very cold winters, and folks from Texas, Arizona and California have had a lot of cold damage two winters in a row.
(But then so has Florida...) 😐

Well, April is over and we all whined a bit.
Turns out, April was actually unusually warm here.
Figure 1 shows average temps in OK; figure 2 shows deviation from normal.
Now I'm on to whining about May. Low was 39 F this morning, with 36 F forecast for tomorrow. Yes, I hauled in palms until my back got sore. Surely most any palm can take 36 F, right?
--Erik
Wow... that was a warm April.
I think some of Idaho and parts of the North-West had a record cold April.
But looks like May could be a very nice month here. 😀

IT hasnt been that bad here actualy. Last few weeks have been cloudier and a bit wetter then normal, but the temps are bang on. People here jsut forgot what a normal spring is like after so many years of early springs ( of course a few normal or longer springs thrown in).
The big difference here is the fall. We normaly get frost mid september ( avereage last frost is sept 15? ) But the last 10 or 15 years the fall has been lasting longer. I never noticed till i moved back to the city after 2 years in calgary. Even the winter wasnt as long lasting as normal ( with some damn cold nights, but compared to "normal", 5 nights or so near -30C is nothing compared to what i remember as a kid where it would last for weeks).
The last 2 weeks have been bang on as far as Im concerned. Things are a week or 2 behind due to some cooler daytime temps, but we havnt had more then 2 nights in a row of just below freezing temps. Lowest was -5C at the airport last night ( warmer in my area probably -2C), and none predicted for the next 2 weeks.
The best thing is the ground has been thawed for a few weeks now so the yard is good to go for the mass plant-a-thon that awaits it.
May/june according to enviroment canada, is going to be average temps, and above average precipitation for NW Ontario ( not bad actualy, we could use the extra water. The lake shore ( Lake Supirior), was down 10 -15 feet last summer).
Hope for a good growing season!

Wow, April was warm for you Erik.
I'll whine with you about May 😆
We're on day 3 and two have been lousy (as though that's NEW!) 👿
Hope the rest of you get hot, as we're not.
Palms that have seen 80 and 90...and then experience 36 F...it MUST be ok as only prolonged chill causes harm.
Or?
Gonna throw another log on the fire...
Then spend the afternoon naming the fungus gnats, who I've come to know very well.
