It has Victoria as 6b, too. Is that right? I would have thought 8a.

Erik Victoria should be an 8b Vancouver 8a Saltpring Island B.C. 9a. I don`t know how they could be 2 zones+ off on their zone designation. Bananieru at least they are only half a zone off in your area. They totally screwed up the zones on the west coast.

They've got St. Johns as 5b when we've got milder winters than Toronto? I use plantmaps.com

Never use those Canadian hardiness zones. They overestimate the climate in warm summer areas and underestimate them in cool summer areas. That's why Victoria/Vancouver are listed as 6b (lack of summer heat) and St. John's is 5b (same). It also tends to overestimate the zones in Ontario, Toronto proper is listed as 6a which is correct, but Kingston is also listed as 6a which is nonsense (K-town is, long term, right on the border of 5a and 5b)... This is all compared to the USDA zones. The Canadian map tries to take too much information into a account, and this leads to the confusion/inaccuracies when determining your growing zone!

Paul that makes sense how they arrived at those designations for the west coast. They could have very easily just used Environment Canada hardiness zones instead of making up their own 🙄 . Jordan thanks for the info on plantmaps.com. Now that`s more like it!
