Anyone see the TV special tonight called Global Dimming?
Very complex. At first glance, one might think it could hold off the effects of Global Warming.
According to the show, not true, and the ramifications of "fixing" one without the other are staggering.

The show's transcript is here, definitely worth a read:

Anyone interested in participating in the BBC's Climate Prediction experiment, here's a link:

And a message board:

That's interesting. I am glad that scientists are looking a a larger view of global climate change.

It seems that their research does not take into account the 'conservation impact' on global climate change. Hydroelectric power generation creates huge man made lakes which results in additional global water surface to aid evaporation. Windmills reduce wind speed which also affects evaporation and air currents. Solar panels(and dark colored roofs) reduce the amount of sunlight reflected back into the atmosphere. This reduces the amount of sunlight that would reflect off of the clouds to the earth.

Here's the actual video, about 50 minutes long.

http://www.documentary-film.net/search/sample.php

The biggest thing I got out of this show was that if we "eliminate" pollution, which are generally particulates (i.e. anything we burn to produce electricity and power that gives off exhaust...) without at the same time reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the "cleaner skies" will allow the REAL climate warming to be realized.

And it was because of Sept.11/2001 that they discovered it. In the days that followed the World Trade Tower incidents, aircraft were basically grounded in North America, so no contrails from jets allowed a brighter bluer sunnier sky to shine through. Instead of the 1 or 2 degrees in 100 years of global warming, they saw a 2 to 3 degree INCREASE in those two days!

And that's just the beginning...
All the examples you gave do help, but we're taking only baby steps Allen, when we need to
sprint.
