some places under brush

The article quoted young saguaro often do well under some sort of canopy to protect them from the sun when young.
That'll work well for you.

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Well my place in Texas tied a record low today 15F/-9C

I've be looking for a warmer area in Texas, hard to find that balance of warm winters and liveable summers. 😆

Aaron,
W and I are, too. We're thinking the Gulf coast for a decade or so from now.

Cornudas/Dell City area. I was thinking about the Brownsville area, but I need the mountains so now I thinking some where by Bigbend area. I also like places where I can stargaze away from cities. I was thinking Marathon, Terilinga, or maybe Presidio. I like Marfa and Alpine, but they may be just a little colder than I want. I'm sure I will change my mind in a week or so. 😆

We are not close to ready to retirement. also, we have ties here that will keep us here for several years.
W's company is expanding in south Texas, so #1 would be where the jobs are. 😆
I like the broader Corpus area, but have not been south of there. We might make a road trip to check it out.
Any suggestions? It is all driveable from here whenever we have a few days off. --Erik

Sent my son down to the Rio Grande area, said look to see if you can find me 2 to 5 acres, they call it the Texas Riviera.
He called me and said It would take all my money just to get 1 acre!
So a quarter of a mil won't go to far there!!!LOL

I have not been to Texas yet, so I personaly dont know what would be a good area. I get most of my info off the net and I have a few friends that moved to Texas. I hear mostly good things about the state. My one friend lived in the Brwonville area and liked it so much he moved back, said it had weather much like south Florida, but he said he missed the mountains. You can find nice homes there in the late 90s/2000s yr brick homes very cheap. Like well below what you can buy here, $50-60 thousand cheaper.
I would love to post some real estate sites but not the forum for such. I would love to have a place there but just to far to travel too, I dont fly.

I'm not sure about there, but in the lower Rio Grande McAllen/Brownsille you can find some nice lots for around 10-15 thou. And if you look around enough you can find 1-5 arces in the county for 4-10,000 thou. but takes alot of looking and of cource wont be on the beach. 😆

However I lost out on a SE Texas beach front property about 900 ft/maybe less from the beach with water/sewer/phone at lot line. $6000 🙄 I did not have enough money at the time. 😡 The other night on tv I seen a home in Florida sell for about 50 thou, about 1500sq' and was in the 90's/2000s I wonder how prices can get any lower. 😯

I was looking at a blog I follow. It's writen by a retired couple that stay the winter in Cochise county. Well I noticed they went to Bisbee yesterday and from looking at thier pics I don't see any winter damage from the 10F/-12C they had ealier. Strange if I had those plants in my yard and it got 10F everything would be toast. 😆
I hope they dont mind me posting their blog. 🙂

Neat blog, Aaron, great pics.
Especially the first one...motorhome parked in the desert.

Yup, plants look good to me too.
Likely because temps get into the 60s during the day?
