13deg below the record low in Bisbee AZ, only 6 miles from Mexico. 10F/-12C for Douglas AZ on the Border 6 deg below the record low. Sunsites/Pearce AZ 1deg below the record low. 0F/-17.7 for Silver City NM. Nothing Warm about this climate. 🙄
And the other day we broke a record low here in Shoshone as well. 😡
We will see how the palms look in that area when I get some pics this spring/summer. 😉 If they are all dead I will have some land to sell. 😆

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Oh man, Aaron...Douglas at 6 degrees below record!
By how many degrees was your record at home broken?
a friend spent last winter in Mexico.
Said it was awfully cold.
So a second year now 😥
Global warming my foot. Mini Ice Age without the snow in the West.
We used to have 3 or 4 feet of snow by now...we've got 3 inches on the ground.

Snow here is a sign of warmer weather in the winter. Warm air brings snow here, dry air brings cold temps. And I can tell people this Boise sold their plow equipment about 10 years or more ago because of dry cold weather. Our all time record cold in Idaho came during drought years. Do to cold dry air from the coast.
The biggest threat to saguaros over the past 100 years has been cold weather. Cold weather has killed more saguaros in the past 100 years than anything. 😐

I am sure the people in Greenland would disagree about GW 😯
Sorry to hear it's been so cold there,we are just kind of
locked into the cold weather here, nothing to extreme on way are another though.
At this point I would rather see it stay cold and have an early spring....March 1 sounds about right!

It'd be good to see the rest of that document, as others here are growing cactus in the cold.
Page 1 heading was The Role of Freezing Weather in a Warm-Desert Plant Population.
They could've labelled that Canada! 😆
Warm air brings snow here, dry air brings cold temps
Here too.
But with all the rain storms that recently hit Washington Oregon and N.California, you think you'd get SOME over the mountains into your area.
We interior BC folks have the same problem, not enough moisture heads our way over the mountains.
And those bloody mountains are growing 👿
We now get this:
<img src=" " width="500" height="375" alt="DSC03121" />
Versus what we used to:

I should refrain myself from the above statement until I can find where I read it.
I found some of the doc, but cant seem to find the part of the doc that shows pics of the saguaros from the late 1800's how numerous they were and later pics of the same areas in the 1900's that show damage after freezes. I thought it also showed how there is not as many large saguaros in the present because a curent freezes, but until I find the pics I cant prove this. 😆

I hope not to offend anyone with my thoughts on global warming. I don't totaly disagree with global warming I just think it is not as easy as blaming man for everthing. Back in the 70's I remember reading that the world was cooling and we were headed for an ice-age, and I can't help to think about the saguaro freeze doc, becuase it was written in the 70's. And yes I remember that carbon was to blame back then for blocking out the sun's rays and making the earth cool. 😐

Except the part about offending anyone...PC has gone a little too far, methinks.
Time to say what we think.

You're free to express yourself 100%! I'm free to disagree! I do try to word things carefully, but, I would not call myself PC. I think you all know my opinion on this, see below:
The popularity of global cooling came from two magazine articles one in Time and one is Newsweek. Both of these articles are from the mid-1970's. The idea never gained popularity, and was only really based on a slight cooling trend that occurred from 1940 to 1970. This idea has since been dismissed by 99.9% of all scientists, and 99.99% of those not supported financially by large carbon producers... It really makes me annoyed that these conservative elites are getting the message of the few out there when there is no debate in the scientific community. Take this as personal opinion.
Not the greatest source, but Wikipedia does tend to explain things pretty well:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_cooling
Controversy:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_warming_controversy
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Climate_change_consensus -this one shows that my 99% is not accurate, at least within the USA (may be correct worldwide) which has 97% support.
Aaron- FYI no germination on those O. chlororitca seeds yet. Thanks again!
No big surprise--I'm with Paul on this one.
While we're sharing links, here is one I trust as it is written by climate scientists and they give the raw data so anyone can check them: http://www.realclimate.org/index.php/archives/2007/05/start-here/
Anyway, I can't complain about the weather here lately as it has been unnaturally warm and dry. I credit La Nina for the nice weather this season, although I feel so sorry for the folks in Queensland.
Aaron- FYI no germination on those O. chlororitca seeds yet. Thanks again!
Yea, mine have no germination either. Could have been that I pulled them of the cactus to early? We can can try again next fall. 😉
