It seems Alberta has been the winner this fall, in terms of low temp., especially considering it's zone 3a/3b stature.

Calgary's lowest temp. so far has been -9 Celsius. This may not seem like much, but considering Calgary's AVERAGE low is -12 at this time of year, it's quite the thing.

Other notables:

Kelowna: -9.2
Edmonton: -11.1
Winnipeg: -17.7
Toronto: -8.6
Montreal: -8.1

All of the above are official (usually airport) temps.
I know, I know, everybody has remarkably warmer micro-climes in these areas! The low at my house near downtown Calgary has been -7.1.

Can Calgary keep up it's 8b winter? Oh wait, winter's just starting, damn! 😆

Toronto City centre ( http://www.theweathernetwork.com/index.php?product=historical&placecode=caon1761): -6.9C
It should be noted that the city centre gives a 6b USDA rating (barely), while Pearson gives 5b. The urban heat island and proximity to open water is amazing!
Halifax (Shearwater): -3.6C. Another zone 6 area.
Yarmouth, NS: -2.6C. It is 7a!
Windsor, ON: -4.7C. This is a zone 6b.
Trenton, ON: -9.2C. Zone 5a.
Ottawa, ON: -9.4C. The airport gave me a marginal zone 5a long-term, but I feel like it is 4b... My garden would be similar to Trenton and Ottawa. Zone 5a.
Victoria, BC: 0.6C. Zone 8b/9a.
Long Point, ON: -3. Probably zone 6b, but no ong term data is available.
Brier Island, NS: -2C. Another Eastern 7a. This is not based on long term data however but a compilation of data from nearby stations which have been active in the past. If I was to base the zone rating only on the Brier data (not nearly enough to make me happy) it owuld be 7b, but just barely.
Sable Island, NS: 0 (33f). The ONLY zone 8 in Eastern Canada! But good luck gardening there!

Please note, that I use a slightly different method to determine zone then the USDA. I use longer term data (i.e. 30 years as opposed to 10-15 years) as I feel this gives a more accurate picture of the climate and 'smoothes out' warm and cold periods that can last a few years.

I always love talking climate, maybe it's time for me to, once more, post my zone maps! I especially love looking at 2 different relaible weather stations (i.e. Shearwater and Halifa Airport) which are close togather and yet are nearly a full zone different according to the USDA! The same with Pearson and city-centre in Toronto.

I've only done Ontario and NS. Not BC or Alberta (the other provinces I've spent extended time in....)
Ontario:

Nova Scotia:
<img src=" " alt="Paul Zone Map">
This was my first attempt. The zone 6a area is too long and should be restricted more to the coastal region. Most of the province should be considered 5b. I think it's interesting to note that Nova Scotia is actually the mildest province overall!
Here is an example of what the data will spit out for each station (I just join the dots to make the USDA style map).

FYI -26.7C is -16f. Definately a long term 5a!
