"The Low" just rolled in.
There used to be mountains over there...now covered in a blizzard.
Global warming, my a**

Sucks, doesn't it.

Looks like Edmonton will miss the snow but it is supposed to get down to -10*C tonight. The cover is back on the Palm shelter and I turned the heat back on.

I hope that those 3 nice days were not all the summer we are going to get.

-10? Ouch. Thank goodness you hadn't taken the palm shelter apart yet, Allen.

If during summer you hear me complaining about 34C, hit me with a stick please 😆

Good News.

You won't have to water the yard for a few days. 😀

I was wrong about Edmonton missing the snow, and they were wrong about -10*C. It took until 3 PM for the temperature to get that high in our neck of the city. We missed the record low by 2*.

We haven't got as much snow as you, but there were 3 fender benders in the 24 block drive home from the hockey game. I still don't know how we improved from the worst drivers in Canada to the second worst drivers.

Lots of accidents on the roads here.
Would've been worse if it had been a weekday.

An old-timer here said he's never seen this happen in 50 years.

Here's to not seeing it again.

The last time that it was this bad was in 1929. We are forecast to break a record on Friday when the low gets to -14*C. We are also forecast to get 80 cm of snow by Friday before the temps get back to 0.

I generally take forecasts with a grain of salt. Not after today. -10*C and winds gusting to 75 km made it ridiculously cold.

Me too, Palmetto, thanks.

Allen, 80 CM ???? 😯 I hope they're dead wrong!

The local radio station yesterday reported this is a 100 year record for temps and snow.

Peach, apricot, some pear and apple varieties will be severely damaged = low crops.
My 30 year old Star Magnolia was in full bloom; could be a gonner.

Barb et al! You guys make sure NOT to send that weather this way! The Magnolias are reaching peak here in Toronto, I'd hate to see the flowers get frosted...
Hopefully your magnolia is okay. It would be a shame to lose it to a freak late cold snap/storm... Let us know how your plants fared...

Allen... I don't know what to say...

It reached 26 on Firday, 25 on Saturday and 28 yesterday in Sydenham (according to my digital thermometer in the shade...) Amazing temps for this time of year! I planted a large bamboo (P. aureosulcata), a bunch of cacti, and a few Yuccas.

I'll post an updated dead plant list in a moment... I have a LOT of new additions... I didn't have a chance to get any pictures though...

Paul,
DEAD PLANT LIST? Because of the heat?

Paul, here's the Magnolia today.

Wish I had taken a photo of it on Friday.
The flowers were breathtaking!

I don't know if it is good news, but the snow is supposed to stop today with just over a foot of snow. Places north and east of us got the worst of it. The Lloydminster area got more snow in the last 3 days than it did during the winter.

The wind is supposed to back off as well. I am tired of shoveling one day and not being able to see where I shoveled the next day.

Now it is going to get sunny and cold. The forecast calls for lows of up to -18*C over the next 3 days and highs of almost 0*C. We have been setting all time low temperature records most days and that won't change before Friday.

There is over 2' of snow in the desert and the soil should be close to freezing. The ground should saturate when it thaws and I am afraid that I will have a dead list like Paul's.

I just have to hang in and hope for the best.

Allen, be grateful for that nice enclosure you built.
It's certainly worked for you this year.
