Yeah, Erik THAT winter was one to be remembered!
We all cringed every day when seeing your temps.
Have fun in Cabo, Beny...don't forget new batteries for your camera.
Lots of Washy pics please.
Your palms are well protected, so you can vacation in peace.
Good job!

I noticed Mt. Lemmon in Tucson, Arizona is cold this week........tonight low of 7F with 3 days in a row of highs in 20's. This is Yucca schottii country.
Nice! Would be a good place for seed! From looking at the weather maps everyday for the past weeks, looks like some of their range in the Chiricahuas have been below 0F.
When's the next time your going to see you brother in Tucson? It would be cool if we could go for a day hike looking for seed. I'm hoping to be there sometime in May.

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Well the white stuff has finally hit my area. No major lows here yet but Norfolk area in eastern England hit 8F not normal for that area 😯 A few night pics
Above drooping leaves of Illicium Henryii
Fatsia Japonica does not like snow 😆
Schefflera Rhododendrifolia enjoying its first and probably last Winter in the ground.
Yucca Aloifolia. Interesting that the recurvifolia type leaves all have damage even before the cold.
Pseudosasa Japonica... an uncontrollable weed 😉 seems to attract snow.
All the weather models point towards towards this cold lasting into mid February with small mild interludes. Winters are getting colder here but then I am 52N 😆

When I go down there this year I will try my best to find the best hardy seed I can, and disperce them throughout the forum. 😀

Oh sure, you two.
We'd have to send out a search party looking for Tim and Aaron.
After two weeks.
They'd still be collecting 😆 😆
disperse them throughout the forum
Why the West was Yucca'd.
😉
Yes please.

sounds great...........are there any high elevation valleys which might pool cold air............like a frost hollow? Start looking at the bottom and walk up the sides to find the Yuccas growing closest to the bottom.........these may be hardier than the ones near the peak since cold air does not 'pool' at the peak.
This is how the hardiest Eucalyptus's are collected.

Exactly! Just because they are found at higher elevations does not mean more cold hardy. Cold does not pool on mountain tops and sides. 😉
I will see what I can find Tim. Most of the problem with getting seeds from Y. schottii is I can never find any with seeds. I hope this trip will be better. 😀
I think this year I'm going to get some seed off the trunking baccata's if they are baccata. 😆

Just came back from the Baja California in Los Cabos.....it was just perfect, the hotel, beaches, sun and palms. I never seen so much Washingtonia and Phoenix in my life, just crazy...temp. was between 22-30c all the 2 weeks i ve been there.
There s few pics.....just dream guys...
The last pic, i was in the desert and you can see a 400 years old Gardon cactus behind me, amazing....
Ben
Nice! Wish I was there.
Did you swim? What is the ocean water temperature like?
I was at the limit of the sea of Cortez and Pacific ocean. Yes i was able to swim, small waves and sea temp. of 72-75F, a little colder. The pools at the Hotel Riu Santa Fe was heated at around 80F. I did surf on the Pacific side and the water was a bit colder, around 70-72F i guess.
Very nice Hotel, a lot of American like you from the middle west....
Ben
Hey Beny, thanks for the great photos.
Those two yucca to your left behind you in last photo... 😀 in front of the towering cactus...
And the 10 foot cactus up against the building is a fine specimen.
Beautiful landscaping; done with taste.
Agree that the combination of Phoenix and Washingtonia is a nice one.
And the agaves provide great color combination.
