Sable island is part of the province that I live in 😆 It's hilarious because for elections etc it's part of the Halifax riding, but the two places have little in common, only because Halifax is the closest land to it!

I would love to go out there and plant some t. fortunei etc, but they would be removed right away by the staff there 👿 They remove any non-native plants. I only know one person who's been there, and you need to have special permission, as well as a very long helicopter ride over the open Atlantic!

For a long period of time this winter, the lowest temps at my place were -12 C ! I thought I was headed for an 8a winter 😆

Cameron,
I thought the same thing every January that I live in Halifax! Seems the yearly low there is generally in February. Here it is usually in January, but can (and has) fallen in December, January, February, and even March!

Jesse- I'll post an update once I have a chance to look at my plants.

For the last 100 years the abs. minimum in my town was registrated the last days of February 1951 (- 37,2 C). The second minimum some November's day 50 years ago (-34,2C). And minus 30 three or four times in history in January.

1951 was quite a year (no, I am not old enough to remember). McCurtain County (where our Sabal minor live) got to -22 oC then.
I'll get to -21 oC tomorrow morning, which is a local record low for the day, and colder than I have experienced in my life.
W is from Michigan where that cold is normal, but she grumbles that she moved to Oklahoma so she would never have to feel that again. She is working lots of overtime as she seems to be the only nurse who can drive in the 66 cm of snow we have had in the past 12 days. --Erik

Erik, sorry for the extreme cold in your area! Any worries about the palms you are growing?

Igor,
thanks.
Yes, lots of worries, but today and tomorrow I must focus on the animals (7 goats, 5 horses, 70 chickens...).

It just keeps comming eh?

Ive seen "alert" on your weather icon a few times this week. Seems you got another 10cm of snow? That is a plus, free insulation!

I hope its over soon. Your animals will be fine, and im sure your plants will too.

Wait untill Sunday/Monday for the warm up Eric. In the mean time, lots of soup and coffee ( some Jagermiester will warm you up, and make you forget the last 2 weeks 😀 )

I get to join the -30 oC club! The official low for the Bixby weather station came in at -22 oF, or -30 oC.

So, what are the benefits of this exclusive club? 😀
