I was just out for lunch and it's down right plesant here right now. The weekend looks really good. I'll be pulling some boxes of some plants and seeing what I may have lost due to the cold snap. Hopefully the casualties are minimal...

I'm in the same boat as you two... I was in one enclosure today, seems half the fronds are damaged due to (cold? dehydration?) I know I fried 2 with the heat cable directly on, but maybe the cold hurt the others. Center is nice and green with one or 2 other fronds just right.
Sunday I'll add some water...

Checked my palms today. No damage on heated palms but some leaf burn on my pindo. Unheated boxed trachycarpus looking good and some frostbite on unheated boxed sabal louisiana and completely exposed sabal minor. My Medjool date has been Growing in its double walled heated box!
I hope everyone else has minimal losses after this cold. I went down to -21c or -7 f

I wrapped all my boxes in tarp, so too much hassle to open them. I'll see the damage in the spring 🙁
What worries me is that all my wireless thermometers now show the same temperature. They are the same manufacturer and I assume they now read the same sensor. When I started I'm sure they were paired properly.
One of the boxes has no window, so I don't know if the light goes on or not.
Even though we had -25C the minimum, it never went below 0C in the boxes (according the the thermometer).
I also picked up a dead fish from the open water part from my pond, don't know what's going on in there.

Looking forward for +9C this weekend 🙂

Hey Tavi, yeah, supposed to rain a ton on Saturday, so Sunday I'll peek in my Pindo box, but I almost don't want too, in case it is dried out. Then I'll be pissed the rest of the winter... maybe I'll hold off.

Unless I get a ton of rain tomorrow I'm going to have to dig some of my rose cones up. My small rose cones are completely buried under snow and my large ones are about 2/3 buried the snow as been insulating well because the lights turn on much less frequently. My 2 big trachy's will stay closed but my I'll open my smallest trachy and my chamaerops humilis they looked good just a few weeks ago (on our last above 0 day) but see if anything has changed and I'll look at my Yucca Rostrata and couple Agave Americana's and Parryi's the rest will surprise me come spring. I probably won't water anything until I get much closer to March and the temps. are a bit more stable. I have a bit of heavy clay in my yard I doubt the plants are getting too thirsty it probably is holding enough water for me. I'll grab some pictures.

A predator likely took a partial swipe, happy to find the only open water with food in town if you're heating your pond.

I was just outside and checked the plants everything looks great except for one of my Agave Americana (my worst protected one) I think it'll make it but it will take a major set back. I'll post pictures tomorrow. Agave Parryi, Trachycarpus fortunei, Chamaerops humilis, Sabal Minor, Yucca Rostrata all look good. Might check some other tomorrow when I don't have to dig them out as much. Hopefully my bigger specimens have fared as well as their small counterparts and I should have a good spring to look forward to. I certainly hope the worst is over for this winter.

Amen brother! This gives me hope for mine as well. I'll be running out soon to see... however, I'm sure there's another cold snap looming... It's been below seasonal since August!

I hope the spring comes sooner than it did last year. I wouldn't be able to pull the boxes until the third week of May. Usually I could probably pull them last week of April I might keep the protection on the agave just to keep them a bit dryer. Long time for me yet.

I pull most of my covers off in late Feb. but it is drier here. And I don't have any palms to worry about.

PS the other half come off in March.
