De-lidded a few of my trachycarpus fortunei seeds

I figured since I have over 1,000 seeds I'd give this a shot. I removed the pulp from five seeds and sanded them all until I saw the embryo. Here is a pic of three of them.

Does this look right? On a couple, the side looks pretty flat now from sanding, but I had to go down that far to get to the embryo. They are soaking in their own dish of water now and I will see what happens.

At least you found where the embryo is, Tim!
I didn't have a clue where on the seed to to de-lid.

You'll see within a day or two if it worked.

IMO, don't de-lid any more of them until you see how these 3 do.

Yea,they look pretty fresh so,you may not need to delid.

well ...... did it work? My guess would be that these seeds would germinate faster than the others. I've done that to a few seeds and it seems to work. The problem is you have to be careful that you don't sand part of your knuckle off. I started using a small pair of pliers to hold the seed and rub against the sandpaper.
