Cacti, yucca, needle palm, and Southern Mags after winter

Here's a look at the survivors, casualties and the wounded after winter 2014/2015.
It was almost as cold here as last year it seems. Although I think we had less snow.

Here's my Yucca Gloriosa. I think it survived but some damage is appearing on the leaves. I piled snow on top of it when it got real cold so hopefully it protected it.

Yucca Faxoniana appears to be toast. I'm going to try an elata in its place:

E. Reichenbachi looks like it should rebound:

Can anyone verify if this is an A. parryi. It was sold as one, but grows really slow and the leaves are thinner than other parryis.

These are my only barrel cacti. I protected them from moisture because I didn't know if they could handle cold wet winters. Anyone ever tried with these two? I didn't protect any of my other cacti.

A. Harvardiana looks a little damaged but I think the center spear is alive and well:

Check out the difference in the Southern Magnolias. Edith Bogue was hardly burned while Brackens Brown Beauty was almost completely burned. It might be still too soon to see if it will burn and defoliate but it seems ok for now.

and last but not least my needle palm. It's not much to look at but for what it's worth, I can say I have a palm in my yard. I sprayed a few suckers with an antifungicide and they seem to be the ones that did not spear pull (so far). All I did was cover it with a garbage can.

I forgot to mention, I have an Opuntia brachyclada that rotted. I was surprised because I thought all opuntias rated for a zone 5 would do fine here with no protection but apparently not. My cholla from Aaron did fine with no protection as well. Some other Opuntia phaecantha also did fine with no protection.

Hate to see your yucca die. They are suppose to be really hardy, but I have never tried one of those. You parryi could be flagstaff form, hard to id while they are small. Where did it come from? I would never let your barrel cacti or agave utahensis get moisture in the winter time.

If I was a zone warmer the yucca might have made it. I got the Agave from High Country Gardens. It suckers profusely.

Definitely parryi then. They sell the what I believe to be parryi v couesii. Just dug mine up because they refuse to grow. Will have to fine a better place for them. But watch those spines because parryi ssp neomexicana has thin leaves too while young.

It does seem to have different spines compared to another parryi that I have.

Thanks Jim and Barb! The east coast had more snow than us but I think where I'm at saw colder temps. Seems like the Southern Mags got hardier over the past year.
