End of Summer update from Niagara-on-the Lake, Ontario
Days are getting shorter and the nights are getting colder and we probably have another month or so before we get our first frost.
Fall crocus blooming
One of my Ensetes
Plumeria
European Fan Palm
New Canary Island Date Palm
Bismarckia Palm
One of my Blood Bananas
My big basjoo
Lots of these guys
My Castors did very well this year despite being ignored
Perennials finished for the year
Little Gem still flowering
DD Blanchard planted 2 years ago getting big
Strawberry Tree badly damaged this winter by ice so not expecting much in the terms of fruit this year

Slow growing Needle Palm and Sabal minor.
Another Sabal minor from Frank

Beautiful. Incredible it's only a short distance from Toronto, still such a difference. Congratulations.

The micro-climate here makes a huge difference. Especially in the winter. Most of the time we are a few degrees warmer then Toronto in the winter but I've seen almost 10 degree differences between us and the GTA in January which is amazing since I can see Toronto looking across the lake.bananieru wrote:Beautiful. Total eye candy, Ryan.
So impressive what grows in the Niagara area...
Tough to believe it's in Canada, really.
Well done.

If you drink, don't drive. Don't even putt.

Is this microclimate in all Niagara-on-the-Lake or just restricted to your area. If it's just an area, were would that be? (planning my retirement )

Tavi, much of Niagara-on-the-lake, St Catharines, all of Jordan and Vineland and some of Beamsville are 7a:

Last winter, our low was -13c here in Beamsville, at our house in south facing microclimate it was -11c only one day and -9c three days, not in a row

Every time passing Niagara-on-the Lake I enjoy a town core, the gardens, bamboo is everywhere and that famous araucaria araucana in downtown. Believe I have been passing the Ryan's paradise sometimes too... I love this area!lucky1 wrote:Total eye candy, Ryan. So impressive what grows in the Niagara area...
