While not a indoor palm, just came today a Buta Eriospatha (wooly jelly palm) from Steve in Alabama.

Nice, Tavi! :D

Did you bring the Sabals over as "houseplants"?
No problem at the border?

They did not ask. They were more interested in cigarettes and booze. Good to know next time if they ask; houseplants because who in the right mind would grow palms outside in Canada?
To be honest they grow so slow that they can be house plants for a long time.

Good point, Tavi.
Glad your guys are a bit more lenient.
Seems the BC border constabulary consistently frown upon "soil" coming in, whether in a houseplant or something that might actually survive outdoors here.

Yup, booze and cigs are a big issue here too.
If Canadian booze etc prices were as low as that in the US, there'd be no problem at all.
But because we pay 300% more for booze...

It'll be good to watch how those Sabals do at your place.
They're a good size and should grow well this summer for you.

I guess its a give and take we charge you 300% for the booze and you charge us 300% for the pot ..in all seriousness why are the booze so high. Even crown royal, canadian made and imported isnt very high but everything that goes over your way get an instant mark up.

Yup, blamed Mulroney for a lot of stuff, and it's all justified.

But BC gov't is really tax greedy.

Very nice Scott.

Any hint of color on the Cyrtostachys?
Maybe a close-up of trunk?
Sometimes there's a hint of pink early on.

Well....here is what I did to help ensure their survival. LARGE plastic base that holds water and rock to help create humidity, and grow pot with palm sits above it all on a plant stand inside the tray.

Pics....

Sari Palm and Zebra Fishtail palm

I know both will be a challenge, but as long as I learn from it. Sari Palm is in high sided tray to always keep water in it since they are used to growing in/near streams n their natural habitat.

Nice, Scott!!!!!
Leaves could probably use some misting.

It'll be good to watch 'em grow.

Hi Barb! I don't mist anymore. Have lost palms due to misting with fungus so provide humidity in other ways now.

Yeah, airflow is critical to keep fungus at bay.

Ptychosperma schefferi

While a common palm it seems in tropical Florida, seems hard to come by via mail order but found a really good nursery in Florida called D'Asign Source Botanicals that does mail order much like Jungle Music does for less tropical specimens. After seeing a picture of one on a website knew I just had to have one. This 3' size was $25 plus shipping via UPS. 2nd pic is sitting next to a Mule Palm and two Takils.

Still alive, outside where it gets a lot of heat and sun. Kind of languished for a while but now new spear starting to move. Phil at Jungle Music had some really nice ones on special a week or so ago...was tempted to snag one..just in case, but didn't.
