Death Winter

Post by lucky1 »

Too long, too cold, too dark in the barely-heated building this winter = dead plants

My prize Spingle palm, and little Cycas panzhuaensis:

3 collapsed Triangle palms, numerous Foxtail palms started from seed a few years ago:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/southslope/8696923860/" title="002 by edible_plum, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8402/8696 ... c7cc_c.jpg" width="600" height="800" alt="002"></a>

That may not be the entire list yet.

Barb

If your cycad still has a firm caudex I would not throw it away immediately. It might come back and surprise you.

Sorry Barb , Maybe if you know somebody with a new greenhouse you might have to give him more palms so he can overwinter them in his greenhouse. lol. The weather is calling for plus 24C this weekend sounds good to me.

I agree with jubea - My Sago looked much worse, and i forgot about it outside in the summer, and it came back. Give it some heat and hope for the best

And its ok barb now you have room for more plants!

Barb sorry for your loss! I lost a bunch of palm seedlings and most of my bananas this year.

Thanks folks, and for not telling my SPINGLE was wrong
Meant Spindle.

Yes, I'm hanging onto that Cycas.
I remember the old saying from Tom Broome "never give up on a cycad".

Keith, hmmmm, somebody with a new greenhouse...and right in town, too. :D
If there's anything left to overwinter, I'll call you in September.
Thanks for the offer.

Appeciate everyone's concern!

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Yeah, ain't that the truth!

The heat coming -- which is soooooo welcome -- will finish a few off.
But that's ok.

We all deserve some heat after this long brutal cold.
Considering it's only 4 months until September.

No...that's not true, any plant would welcome your care.

Scary thought... only 4 months until September. We had snow on the ground when I woke up (first of May!) :? I think my plants are having a harder time making it through spring than they did in winter.

Jesse, look the temperature at Denver, Colorado Springs, or Amarillo (TX) and Clovis, NM (34°24&#8242;45&#8243;N). It's scary!

Yuck, Aaron.

And poor Jesse, thinking of you as you wait for the end of that.

Igor, yes, the weather channel showed photos of Boulder Colorado yesterday in a blizzard, several inches of snow atop flowers!
Apparently it's not a record for them.
The latest they've ever received measurable snow was June 14th (forgot which year).

April is definitely a crap month the last few years.
