East Coasters: Brace yourselves

Post by canadianplant »

It is a bit early to be certain, but according to this, every day the likelyhood of this happening increases.

Cold arctic air is going to mees Ms. (hurricane) Sandy next week. Looks like it may be beyond the scope of "the perfect storm".

Also, this, from Canada to America:

And cold/snow due to the arctic low. Might be time to prep a bit. Better safe then sorry IMO.

Fingers crossed that it'll bring warm air and push the arctic low somewhere else.
Once these big storms hit land, don't they usually fizzle?

20+C in Toronto today...sheesh, their summer is back and I'm jealous. :|

were supposed to get alot of rain and wind here in NJ, My nanas will like the rain, but not so much the wind!! Trees still have leaves on them so that is also a problem, many trees may fall due to the greater surface area. Power outages???

There is (or was )some concern this storm could bomb out along a
deep trough(frontal boundary)and become a super storm but I think
regardless, even as a minimal hurricane there is a serious issue with
where it may hit-possibly just south of NY.Minimal is still 74mph!

This trough/front is the same one that dropped our temps 21F in less than an hour-
I was looking at the temp here at 7am today and it was 74f,I looked again at the temp outside
a little later and saw it was 53f-only 50f tomorrow(etc) with temps around freezing at night
after a morning low(yesterday)of 66 and a high of 86,the low last night was 77f! :D

YES...A COLD SLAP.

Looks like it will be dry and 30/33 to 50/55 moderating
to 40/low 60s-very blockey pattern with the hurricane and
a negative A.O.not a problem for the palms and cactus! :thumbleft: :hello1: :headbang: :wav:

Have a guess where these hurricanes end up after they've done their deadly deeds? Yes we usually get them as storms.

Sounds like a plan!

Exactly one year ago we lost power and phones for a week, no cellular either 'cause the towers lost power. Although last year we had the snow to keep the adult beverage cold all week.

Hope it's just the media hyping this thing up and it misses you and me! :occasion5:

Paul and Tim and Mike (anyone else on PN?)...hunker down and stay safe, folks.

Watched CNN's excellent report this morning of the tall ship sinking and 2 people missing.
Hope they're found.

According to CNN:
  • 15 confirmed dead in U.S., one in Canada
Power cut to 6.5M people in 13 states
At least 50 homes burn to ground in NY
Floods close major airports in Northeast
It's terrible :(

I was too freaked out watching the winds snap them so I caved and cut them myself , Barb! Now I regret it.... :x IMaybe I should have let them keep growing. But in the end when we get a freeze sometime in november, they would have to be cut back anyway so....moot point.

I have no idea how I still have electricity when 2 million people in Philly/South Jersey area have none...??? :)

I think you were wise.
They'll keep growing, you saved them from getting torn out of the ground, roots and all. :D

Glad you and your family are safe in that horrible mess.

After what I saw on TV, I wouldn't live on the coast--any coast--for all the beer at the brewery. :|

And the left coast BC had 2 EQs... but no damage compared to Sandy's destruction.

I was stunned to see the devastation on TV...that beautiful shoreline and gorgeous homes, street after street, ruined.

Let's hope folks get power ASAP...

I hope the damage to everyone's properties was minimal. I was glad that my area didn't receive the brunt of the storm; usually they seem to follow the Gulf Stream right beside NS! All of my potted plants were knocked over, but overall, the damage could have been far worse.
