So THATS what's been flying around the house.......
I think I have those AND maybe spot fungus. I've been trying to follow the rule damp but never wet as far as the soil goes. Humidity in the house over 50% may contribute as well.
Guess I will go for a while without watering. and misting 2-3 times a day I'm sure is over kill as well.
While new Foxtail in pics seem to be the worse, I took closer look at other plants and Queen palm seems to have it as well on the upper most fronds.

Looks like fert burn to me, Scott, but I'm not sure.
There was a really good resource on nutrient deficiency pics.
Will try to find that again.
But I don't think that's your problem.
And fungus gnats don't do that either.
Do you let misting water sit in a bucket, so that it can heat up to room temp and dissipate City water chlorine?
Just a thought.

Scott, This isn't the one I was looking for, but it is good nevertheless:

So I think your problem is narrowed down to chemicals and/or disease.
I'll try to find the palms chart.

Hi Barb,
Were on a well, and water is from out tap, through a whole house filter, then again under the sink. I never spray with cold water...or water plants with cold water. The spray I fill up at night, then let set over night before spraying anything.
One thing I've discovered is house humidity is 60%, so I thought I was doing more damage by having small humidifier on 1hr a day by the plants, and misting up to 2-3 times a day. I can see now it was over kill. I have one Queen palm with similar spots at the very end of one frond.
I've separated the Fox Tail to a room by itself, and sprayed everything with Schulz Fungicide 3
Other than using a dehumidifier I can't easily drop the humidity in the house as it's just the natural humidity in the house. We haven't had to hardly run the heat pump this fall because it's been so mild out. I have though turned down the water supply to the humidifier on the furnace. If it gets really cold and the regular furnace kicks in this winter then I can turn the water on more to the whole house humidifier.
Ya know...it just dawned on me.....when I got that plant in the mail I did soak the roots in some water with a few drops of food grade hydrogen peroxide. I've done what with other plants, but maybe it bothered this one more? The roots on this plant were extensive and long.
Good news is that this plant has one nice sized center spear yet to open, maybe it won't be affected.

Scott, could be something as simple as this http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/pp140
But I'm voting for a nutrient deficiency/maybe even a surplus! (bin der, dun dat!)
Potassium maybe.
Actually, here's the main page because it's important to follow all the OBSERVATION tips first.
http://flrec.ifas.ufl.edu/palm_prod/palm_problems.shtml
Still looking for the even better document...it'll blow your socks off.

It's a bad habit of mine to not take a picture of newly bought plants, especially when bought online so I can't have "before/after" pictures in case I have an issue. Usually I'm pretty darn excited to get something new I want to get it in a pot or in the ground and don't look over plant close. I just spray it down with insecticide and keep it away from others for a while.
THANKS for your help and advice Barb

Yes, another great article Barb. My Fox Tail came from Florida.
I will not mist, and wipe leaves with my fungicide spray and keep close watch on it.

I don't think it's a misting problem especially since you're on well water, so no chlorine is in there.
I mist my palms...
Good point about taking pics.
Here's another clickable page.

WHEN I find the document I'm looking for, I'll ask webmaster Jay to make it a sticky on PN for easy reference.

Maybe I'll go to just misting once a day?? maybe 3x was too much since humidity in the house was ok. OR go back to letting the small humidifier run for the 1 hr I had it programed to.

Found it and posted link on Palm Diseases under Photo Gallery.
Because we'd never find it again under Fungus Gnat topic.
Here it is too:
http://www.palmsnorth.com/forum/viewtop ... 9630#39630
Scroll down to P ... Potassium to see the excellent photos and what else it might be confused with.
Great tips.

Any clues from those documents about your Foxtail?
I'm stuck on only manganese / or / potassium as the problem.
I'd keep a close watch to see if "it" spreads to other leaves.

Scott, For what its worth, when I get a new palmtree, I do as little as possible to it i.e. root disturbance, fertililizing etc. until a few weeks after I get the palm just to make sure the palm has settled into its new surroundings. It should also be placed out of direct sunlight, away from heat vents and drafts and left in a quiet yet bright spot inside your home. If you have any early Celine Dion recordings (the more recent stuff is all crap) play them softly and talk very nicely to your new plant.

I keep trimming off the affected leaves from the foxtail.
It will get to the point where there will be just the one center unopened spear that will be left.

it looks like some kind of bug to me. I'd spray it with a 1 to 4 mixture of rubbing alcohol and water. I am NOT a Celine Dion fan. I made that comment to show my humorous side. My CD collection is loaded with rock and roll. My phone is loaded with more rock and roll and my radio stations are tuned to rock and roll stations and sports talk radio. you should know I have in excess of 75 Rolling Stones CD's in my collection. Love the Stones. Celine Dion not so much.

Hope we get some more ideas from everyone else.
Yup, Kent, I remember some of your humour over the years...hilarious!
Me too re Dion.
