Believe it or not, rarely does the humidity become a factor during a hot spell here on the coast. Generally it is quite comfortable although not in the <10% humidity of the interior regions. Back east ... now that's gruelling when the heat is on and the humidity is in excess of 75%. Today you'd never guess that in 48 hours the temps will accelerate from our current 54f (12c) to over 80f (28c).
Cheers, Barrie.

West warmth
I heard that the high pressure will stay in your area for some time and it could break down when it gets to our area so our forecast is nasty and cold with
overnight frost.
30C and 40C does not feel bad in the arid and desert areas but the sun is strong. When we had 40C before (rare) it was painful and you sweat with 50C
humidity.
It's been damp here lately and if we do get that high pressure, we will be hit with 30C temperatures and 45C humidity. It's nice when in a desert.
This causes severe out break of thunderstorms and I can't remember how many times we been hit with large baseball sized hail and damaging winds.
Temperatures around 26C had 42C humidity here.

Hope it lasts.

Much cooler here Barb. My best guess would be somewhere around the 20c mark at least where I was all afternoon, on the edge of the Ocean (22.7c / 72.9f at home). The cool breezes stopped blowing by late afternoon and it was a pleasant evening. Something tells me we won't see anywhere near the temps they had been calling for earlier. It's supposed to be raining and cool again by Sunday so I guess it won't matter much anyway.
Cheers, Barrie.

Here in Edmonton we've seen 27, 26, and 28 so far today but many areas of the city are over 30 today and were the last two days. Supposed to be a low of 20c tonight so it should be a very very nice patio temperature. Dropping to low teens beginning of week and rain for 3 days though. Gotta love Edmonton's variable climate.

Arctic Palm ... not to worry. In my estimation you'll be in the heat in no time flat. Is "Arctic Palm" really in the Arctic? If so, I may have to retract that statement
Cheers, Barrie.

Cloudburst
This was worse than it looks in the pic...
Dumped half an inch of rain in 15 minutes.
Very strong winds.
Hope it dissipates before it hits Alberta!

Apparently not everyone gets to share in the phenomenon (a the same time anyway). If you're the least bit worried, excessive heat and humidity is bound to come your way before summer is out.Arctic Palm wrote:Didn't someone say something about global heating?? When is that happening?

I can't complain really. Its been pretty sunny here with temps in the mid teens most days. 22 today. long range shows mainly low 20's. I am going to go grab one of the larger t. fortunei's palmetto man found. They like these temps....the little one I planted last year that I thought I killed is growing like crazy....
Environment Canada is forecasting warm to hot weather for BC depending on your location this weekend. Temps are supposed to be in the 30c to 32c (85f - 90f) range for us here and 36c to 40c (97f - 104f) in the interior areas. (Got your misting system working yet Barb?) Enjoy the Canada Day long weekend
Cheers, Barrie.

No dip for me. Too busy watering potted plants.
A few shots from a pellet rifle directed at those pesky birds and they soon catch on. It worked for me and the crows don't come around anymore.
Here's a Chamaerops humilis in my garden and a closer shot of the newest growth.
It's standing nearly 5' tall, loves the heat and regular watering at this time.
Finally a pic of my small Chamaerops humilis 'Cerifera'. It should pick up speed once it gets on in size.
Cheers, Barrie.

Reprieve from Okanagan heat...for a few days
Max today was 24C, nice break.
Big dump of rain last night, sorely needed.
Everything looks clean and fresh today from the rain, the air smells wonderful!
August sounds like the blistering heat will return.

A cool break here too Barb. Yesterday stayed around 15c (59f) for most of the afternoon and finally pushed to 19c (66f) by days end. Very little rain associated with the passing system so no benefit to anything really.
Today (July 30) better overall but still much cooler than it's been thru most of July. We picked up 22c (72f) under mixed conditions today. I think August and September are going to be toasty.
Cheers, Barrie.

Relief from the heat...for a day or two
Had almost two inches of sorely-needed rain in two days.
Cooldown started Friday night:
We had been suffering from smoke in the valleys (came all the way from Washington and N.California's fires) via winds from the south.

Not here Barb. A touch of rain here in Lantzville 2 nights ago, just enough to wet the driveway. There was considerably more in a few other areas here on the Island. Forecast is for back to warm then hot conditions as the week progresses.
Cool photo BTW, was that taken on your property?
Cheers, Barrie.
