The little Graptopetalum paraguayense, they are the little gray/white succulent plants in front of the Agave.

How far into the winter and what temps do you think will mush them?

Hmmmm... after a series of mathematical equations I can conclude that I still don't have the foggiest idea who that shady person is in the right hand corner 😆
Jim.... surely you are not going to leave that lovely agave in the ground much longer? It will probably perish before the graptopetalum at around -9/10C ... the graptopetalum a few degrees more perhaps. When it will happen is anyones guess.

Good one, Andy 😆

I'm guessing the graptopetalum will be gone with another 22F.
You dig it up, don't you?
Even the ice plant has said sayonara for the season...

We'll see you guys....I will keep 3 dry and 3, I will do nothing with.

Keep in mind the Grapto in the cactus enclosure has seen somewhere in the 5F to 10F range.

Not sure about the Agave,it is already sealing off and browning out it's damage,it will be fine but....

on one hand,it did get more rain then I would like if it was to stay out but on the other
hand,it would explode next year if I leave it and its root undisturbed......going to be a game-time decision.

If I have the resources after covering everything else...

Full sun through the plastic cancels out the cold nights.

If I have the resources after covering everything else...

Resources?
3 broomhandles pounded into the ground (teepee) tied at top, covered in vapor barrier.
Priceless. 😉

priceless because you cant put a price on something that doesn't work or can you?

You may be watching to many commercials Barb-LOL

I would need 6-7' broom handles to make a teepee over the Agave,
whatever I would cover it with will take time,I can have it upstairs in under 5 minutes.

Right now it looks like Nov 27th is the last day to get the covers on and the Washy
possibly as early as Friday but more likely the 27th-the countdown begins 😀

Actually nice to know now as a plan can be mobilized.

Nice weather until then with highs in the 60s to 70 over the holiday

Of course that's the best solution. 😀

Nice to have that lead time.

We've got a similar scenario.
Almost fell over when I saw severe cold hitting end of next week ... BRUTAL!

Last time I looked accu was saying it would be (basically below)freezing here day/night at the end of the month on.

They have been saying that for weeks-lets put it off indefinitely.

God, here it comes. 😡

Better to not get caught though, eh, Jim?

I am so NOT ready for winter.

Hi Temp of -7C Barb? That's aweful.......but it is a month away..........so enjoy the warmth! 😀

Hi Jim,

I guess the dry conditions inside the poly help those succulents get so hardy. If I planted them here they would be fried at 20F. 😥

Hi Jim,

I was talking about those Graptos. I have no clue what would really happen here. Cameron sent me some z7 Aloe seeds and many leaves got fried at 27F. They are full of water in our climate.

I think I may have that Agave you have........is it an A. americana 'proto'? No damage on my Agave with no protection.....low of 23F.

Yep Protoamericana-

I believe this one has seen single digits in there, maybe worse.

It was planted and forgot, the Ice plants grew over it and I found it the next year...
so,it would have been right next to the front plastic(coldest area)...when I found
it last spring I moved it to a better spot.

BTW

Tim,I usually cover my stuff from precip starting in Oct to help them go into winter try.

Kinda backfired this year as we were in drought and I didn't believe it would rain in Oct....

it did and they may have seen about 5" before they were covered,I am keeping them warmer
this year tho because of the Trichocereus terscheckii-this is also why I cut down the Yuccas.

I need to get an up date on the Grapto's,they have been frozen for over a week 😯

We'll see what happens when they thaw-they may turn to mush......

keep us updated when the Grapo's get fried.

I dug up my Aloe variegatas today......I think they are damaged but still look OK with a low of 19F. They are frozen solid. These seem to take some cold in our wet climate. We had nearly 5" of precipitation in December already......things are moist here.
