Does anyone know where to get a baseball or softball size caudex? I think Chumley is my best bet.
Thanks,
Taylor

Depends on what kind of Cycad/Dioon you want. You can get a baseball/softball size caudex King Sego for $10 at Wal Mart!
I wouldn't like to pay a lot of money. I like the ones with the blue leaves, but I just want a large caudex of anything really because I want something wit ha good start. I sent Mr. Chumley some money for a few hybrids and a large caudex or something but he confused my order.
All is well.

What would you recommend Kansas? Blue or not...
Thanks!
Taylor
The cycads with the blue leaves are the Encephalartos, and a baseball size will cost you some real money. A 4" cuadex will run you $400 and up...
Well that won't be happening...
Not until I am an adult at least!
lol

How about a Cycas Taitungensis a little bigger than that Taylor? And maybe Encephalartos Gratis and a Revoluta
to go with it? You certainly are a knowledgeable young man for your young age of 15 years. Robert Chumley
I live on 12 acres in Central Florida about half way between Tampa and Walt Disney World.I have seed colonies of over 60 varieties of cycads. I have over one half acre of variegated cycads and I make many hybrids as well.
Yea, you will definatly NOT find anything better or cost wise, better than Chumley. #1 guy I have EVER dealt with.
I am actually getting a package from Mr. Chumley tomorrow....unless there is a delay meaning monday.
It includes:
a 19" tall Taitungensis
Medium Revoluta
And baseball/softball size Gratus
Along with some other things...
Total: 45 lbs
I can not wait!

Taylor
It was about 19" - 20".
By the way, in that thread you linked, those pics of the Spinulosum, they have broken leaves. Just to let you know, those got cut off and now those two trees are two of my strongest growing trees. Both have a tall spread at about 2 1/2' leaves at about 5-6 leaves a piece. WONDERFUL trees.
Taylor, got your shipment?
We'd love love the see the pics.
By the way, can you tell us how your love of cycads developed in someone so young?
(I can be your NOSY auntie... 😆 )
I think it's wonderful, and bet your parents strongly approve.
Please tell us more.
BTW, someone mentioned Dioon Spinulosum leaf edges were bent over. These bent edges NEVER recover, and simply go black and eventually break off at the crease.
