The title says it all! :lol: I'm sure that many of you have looked at plants in the US (many unavailable here), thought about ordering, but stopped when you've seen the high costs associated with minimum orders, phyto certificates, shipping, etc. I think I remember a thread by Barb where she ordered a few Y. rostrata from Plant Delights, and ended up paying something like $300 when it was all over! (Barb, correct me if I'm wrong). For example, Woodlander's nursery does ship to Canada, and they've got a great selection of unique plants, but there's a $350 minimum order, $60 phyto fee, and a 20% handling charge for each plant. On top of this, there are the shipping costs to pay! Plant Delights is similar, with a $100 minimum order, $75 phyto fee, $5 handling charge per plant, as well as the actual shipping costs! If a group of people placed an order together, the cost per person would be much lower when divided among everyone. When I was into keeping dart frogs, bromeliads, etc, I started an order for Canadians from a bromeliad nursery in Florida. We pooled our money together, spent hundreds less than we would have on our own, and everyone got an amazing selection of healthy plants!I haven't been thinking of any particular nursery, but Woodlander's and Plant Delights are good examples. For those who want a more palm-oriented one, I was thinking about EuroPalms, although I'm not sure what to believe about it (I've heard both good and bad). I'm sure there are many other good nurseries, so feel free to suggest any to order from! If anyone is interested in participating in a group order sometime in the spring, please respond to this thread (and suggest some nurseries if possible) to encourage interest among everyone else! I am still planning on ordering from PDN this year, so this "group order" option will still be available 😀

A member of another board who lives in Ontario had set up his own order from PDN in the summer, but had to cancel it due to the summer heat. However, he informed me that PDN no longer charges the $5/plant handling fee for Canadian orders!! I have not confirmed this yet with PDN, but if it's true, it will greatly reduce everyone's costs for this order!

For those that are interested, I think that I will be placing the order during the first week of April. This means that I'll need your orders and $ by April 5th, 2012. Start looking through their website! 😆

I found browsing easier that way.

The author's (Tony) humour is fall-off-your-chair hilarious.
For an example, look up what he writes in the first sentence under Mazari palm, Nannorhops ritchiana. 😆 😆 😆

I don't recall being charged $5 per plant when I placed my y.rostrata order at PDN years ago.
The really pricey thing was the phyto certificate 😯

I used to browse by the common name, but over time it became easier to look at scientific names 😆 It's likely that I'll be ordering from 3 or 4 nurseries in the US this year, and unfortunately, each order will need its own phytosanitary certificate 🙄

Cam et al. I am ordering a large quantity of bamboo from a few nurseries down south. The plan is to have it shipped to Niagara Falls, NY, then drive down to pick it up. The order will have a phyto AND this way I can avoid having the plants delayed at the border (as I've heard is common). If anyone wants to piggy back, let me know in a PM.
