It's a Phoenix canariensis. It does not like our wet winters so I pull it out and it goes in the garage for the winter.

Update from the great white north(Niagara-on-the-Lake Ont.)

Like everywhere else on the east cost we suffered from a horrible winter. In fact for our area it was the worst winter in 80 years. I lost 30% of my hardy tropical, mostly palms without much protection. Pictures are from mid July and sorry for the poor quality pics. Southern mags in May: http://i144 ...

Beautiful. Incredible it's only a short distance from Toronto, still such a difference. Congratulations. Tavi The micro-climate here makes a huge difference. Especially in the winter. Most of the time we are a few degrees warmer then Toronto in the winter but I've seen almost 10 degree differences ...

Thanks everyone.

As for the minor and the needle palm I don't really protect them. I spray them with wilt-pruf and cover them with leaves. That's it. The windmill sits in a plywood box with a few Christmas lights from December-February. Same for the fan palms.

End of Summer update from Niagara-on-the Lake, Ontario

Days are getting shorter and the nights are getting colder and we probably have another month or so before we get our first frost. Fall crocus blooming http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r166/torontoforum/A90ACDE4-9564-42C6-8680-6FD87A1CA13F-865-000000F5269B050E_zps7d76b9ae.jpg http://i144 ...

What do you do with the plumerias in the winter time? Are they in the ground now? The plumeria comes out of the ground once it starts to drop its leaves in the fall. I pot it in dry soil and and it stays in my garage over the winter. They key is to keep the soil dry and give it at most a cup or two ...

D.D. Blanchard hardier than EB?
