Update from the great white north(Niagara-on-the-Lake Ont.)
Like everywhere else on the east cost we suffered from a horrible winter. In fact for our area it was the worst winter in 80 years. I lost 30% of my hardy tropical, mostly palms without much protection. Pictures are from mid July and sorry for the poor quality pics. Southern mags in May: http://i144 ...

Beautiful. Incredible it's only a short distance from Toronto, still such a difference. Congratulations. Tavi The micro-climate here makes a huge difference. Especially in the winter. Most of the time we are a few degrees warmer then Toronto in the winter but I've seen almost 10 degree differences ...

End of Summer update from Niagara-on-the Lake, Ontario
Days are getting shorter and the nights are getting colder and we probably have another month or so before we get our first frost. Fall crocus blooming http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r166/torontoforum/A90ACDE4-9564-42C6-8680-6FD87A1CA13F-865-000000F5269B050E_zps7d76b9ae.jpg http://i144 ...

What do you do with the plumerias in the winter time? Are they in the ground now? The plumeria comes out of the ground once it starts to drop its leaves in the fall. I pot it in dry soil and and it stays in my garage over the winter. They key is to keep the soil dry and give it at most a cup or two ...

Well it was a bad winter and a cool spring in Niagara but things are finally starting to move. Sorry for the poor quality iphone pictures. What does a strawberry tree look like after it went through a bad great lakes winter with no protection? Not too bad. You can see some of the damaged leaves ...

Uncovered a few palms
Had some time today so I removed the protection on a few of my palms. Windmill is protected by a foam box with xmas lights on a thermocube. It looks perfect and put on a few fronds over the winter. http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r166/torontoforum/03B9749F-4938-46C3-91C3-320E5F05161A-4706 ...

D.D. Blanchard hardier than EB?
We had a terrible winter this year like much of the east. Long cold spells, record snow falls and high winds. My magnolia trees did surprisingly well considering the conditions and the fact that they get no protection. This is the second year in the ground for my trees and to my surprise the DD ...
