Thanks! I get a little nervous and baby them. I have three in ground. Two very tall and the third is about a foot of trunk. I may just wrap it in a blanket for the storm.

Oh No Snow

We are possibly getting a snow storm this weekend in the Northeast. The Trachys Have been uncovered for a few weeks. But we will see lows in the low to mid 20's F. Thoughts on covering?? Any suggestions would be great.

When to protect

Im here up in CT and we have had a few frosts but nothing serious. When do you people start protecting your Trachy's. Our 10 day forecast has the lowest temp being 26 F .

I have two mature trees that i think can handle this? Thoughts??

Jealous beyond belief! Freezing here in CT. Another foot of snow coming!!! And -7 F end of the week!
Everything looks great! Maybe uncovering and letting the plants breathe will nock out the mold and fungus!!

marceli it depends on the weather. I had it closed for a week when we were down to -2F at night and highs were 15-20F. but if it s sunny i'll crack the top a little bit. great ill look this weekend!
If when you cut the bottom leave a lip that can be fastened together to keep out moisture and on the top do the same. would that work with insulation in between the two barrels. and no moisture in the insulation.

and then shrink wrap the sides and fasten some type of top to cover and also be able to vent it. The more i'm thinking of this the more it is making sense. If I only had access to these barrells. The cut length wise would allow some flexibility and rebar or something pounded in ground would give it ...

Just a thought ... but if you doubled up the cut barrels and placed insulation in between them would that be an option. (Not sure how many barrells you have access to) But in essence you would have an insulated barrel

thanks for all of the advice. seems that everyone has a trick or two that has gotten them through the winter. I will keep an eye on my trachy. I will vent on days I can. and if i notice some dryness/ leaves closing up. i will get some water in there.

I was thinking that as well. Just want to use some sun to help out during the day.

Thanks! Will be using supplemental heat as well on those extremely cold nights either c-9 bulbs on thermocube or i may just use small ceramic heater with thermucube.
