Thanks All! Wollemi25 thanks for the link....I remember Jim doing this and it was successful. I thought of doing the same but just dug it up and thought to heck with it. Erik and Barb, thanks for the wishes... yes I'll leave the other Trachy and plants for the next owners to care for. I will leave ...

Trachy Death
Hi All, my unsheltered Trachy succumbed to its fungal issue and sadly I had to dig it up. Many spears pulled from the center were mushy and smelly, the rest of the tree's petioles were going black. Hopefully its not a matter of time before the other Trachy heads in the same direction, I'm still ...

Yes Ive taken all winter cover off long ago. its back to rain today for the next 3 days so when we get a break I'll take new pictures and post them. Regarding the sheltered Trachy, maybe on the coldest nights when I wrapped the leaves up, it caused the tree some rot, maybe I left it on too long in ...

great advice Barb  Both Trachys still have no sign of new growth. I poured the copper fungicide down both trunks and we were lucky to have a few days of warm dry weather. the last spear is dried up on the one that had shelter...the one without shelter has a little spear down inside and I'm ...

Thanks everyone! Jordan I have copper fungicide too and another member suggested I use it. It's a powder I mix into a solution but I thought I'd try my Defender first. Perhaps I'll get on it with the copper if that helped your Trachy I'd sure like to see some growth soon on mine too. Again...will ...

Another Trachy Updates
My two poor trachys look like they're headed for doom. I have covered them to keep the moisture out...applied fungicide in hopes to remedy the white mold problem on the center spear. It hasn't grown at all, just keeps getting more brown and wilted. I'm tugging gently to check for spear pull and so ...

Thanks again Tim, I'm thinking the same thing. Erik I am hopeful for your Trachys I'm sure they'll come out so nicely. I hope the rain stays away here soon so I can keep them as dry as possible. Thanks Wes. I am going to find a way to keep them dry...perhaps a garbage bag lightly over top and take ...

Trachy Fungus
Hi everyone, hope this finds you well... just an update on my two trachys...I went out a couple of days ago to give them a good look and see how they're coming along. The one Trachy I hadn't sheltered all winter has a spear that's turning brown. the rest of the leaves from previous frosts i had to ...

Trachy and Garden Update
Hi All - been out of the loop a bit, due to a very busy February. Thought I'd post an update on my two Trachys, one with a shelter and one without. During our cold snaps overnight of -5C back in February I would wrap the palm in burlap and cover it with a garbage bag to keep dry. The leaves still ...

Beeeeautiful Barb! Our temps went to -1C overnight last night and I didn't cover my 'un-sheltered" palm. Tonight it will be -4C so i'm going out there today to take care of that. I also forgot the bananas to cover so I hope there isn't too much damage. The trachy under it's shelter is really nice ...

Tim - I think the lows got to about -8C (17.6 F) for a few nights. the highs were about -2C or so but this didn't last for a long stretch....temps were usually just at the freezing mark or above. I wondered if that's when it got the leaf damage or my thoughts were also the same as wxman - it got too ...

hopefully you won't need to cover to much more :) Thanks Jim, I hope so too! according to our long range forecast we're pretty much done as far as large dumps of snow go. However, temperatures are supposed to average near or below normal for the rest of winter. Take a look at AccuWeather's forecast ...

Vancouver Palm Update Mid Jan
Hi everyone - temperatures have soared to double digits here in the last few days to 13 C ! We got 15cm of snow last week for a day or two and it washed away with all the rain and warmth we got. I had to unwrap the Trachy from its burlap and garbage bag so it could enjoy our weather. See some leaf ...
