Thanks everyone! Jordan I have copper fungicide too and another member suggested I use it. It's a powder I mix into a solution but I thought I'd try my Defender first. in case it's bugs the solution spray should help get rid of it. I would post a new topic for this so others can chime in with their opinions too. Hope it works!

Hi Andy, I use Defender (by the Safer's brand). Have you tried spraying a bit of dish soap diluted in water to wash it off? maybe I or some other folks on here can help identify the problem if you posted some pictures?

Hi Barb - thanks, I'll get some pics up very soon. I wondered why both tree are brown and wilted, especially being established for 3 years now. I expected the damage to be more to the other tree but not both. yeah...the spears are brown, soft, wilted and no growth. not good.
