I had no idea that there were columnars either, my local nursery had 2, had to have one. I was told they will reach 60 feet tall by 14 feet wide at maturity. One of my favorite trees. Your right about the sycamore, they grow to be massive. Alas, mine is just a 15 ft baby :D

Rice road is as close to heaven as a palm nut can get in southern Ontario. They have sables, washies, windmills, many yuccas, European fan palms, Tasmanian tree ferns, bamboo, foxtails, coconut palms, sagos, Christmas palms and many more.

I am planning on half burying the seeds on their sides, is this correct? 50/50 peat moss and perlite. Soil at 75 to 85 f.
Do they require any sunlight?

Spring planting of a windmill

I am planning on planting two windmills in the spring, should I be mixing palm fertilizer into my planting soil when do this or just use a root stimulant? Also I have read that it is a good idea to mix sand in with the top two inches of soil for better drainage. Thanks for the tips.

Hello from southern Ontario

New to the site, just became a hearty palm nut. I have purchased two windmills from Rice road nursery(3 and a 4 footer) going to plant them may 24, 2012. I'm in 5a/5b zone, going to copy what coconut mike has done in terms of winter protection.
