Damn! This little guy has dry leaves, not quite crunchy. 🙁
but a new 1" spear is coming.

Think it'll survive?

Looks like it will be fine Barb. Man has it been hot in the Pacific North West this year, really weird weather.

The camera didn't show how dry those leaves are.

The little spear is the only thing fresh and green looking.

Thanks, I hope it survives.

It's staying in the shade from now on, as most young palms should!

The Pacific NW (and interior) is starting to resemble California for heat, lack of rain, and fires! maybe even Earthquakes!
🙁

I've had a couple of sabal minors that have done the same thing with the outer fronds/leaves. I think when they are young they are prone to drying out. Yours looks OK. You could always dry the leaves out and smoke 'em ..... if you know what I mean?

Similarities over the last 10 years with California can't be ignored...
Today's the first day in nearly 2 weeks the smoke has cleared enough to see the mountains.

Barb was it a missed when watering everything else? I`ve lost a 3 gal. Sabal Louisiana and a couple of other Sabal sp. after watering it from a complete dry pot because I missed it watering the others. The new spear looked healthy only to have it also wither away a couple weeks later. If this is the case I would give it some B1 vitamin (Thrive alive) and rooting hormone to give it the best shot at regenerating it`s roots. I hope I`m wrong looking at your pics. Enough of these fires here and I hope they do the same in L.A.

I've had a few live but most of them shrivel up and die. Yours has a spear emerging so you'll probably be ok. Don't give up on them though. If all the leaves dry out , cut them off, and maintain the plant as usual, water, keep in sunlight etc. I have had more than one regrow , albeit very slowly.

John, yes, I did miss it when watering during our heatwave(s).
Also, the patio chair that protected it from blistering afternoon sun fell over in the wind.
I didn't notice for a couple of weeks.
Those black plastic pots really overheat the soil.

You lost a 3 gallon Sabal? Wow, that'd be hard to take...what a shame.

Kent, this wasn't a fast grower to begin with, but it may be doomed now.

I will give it some Thrive, maybe even repot into a heavier soil to hold a bit of water.

Thanks folks.

You guys were right!
The spear is growing, but rest of leaves are now brown and crunchy.

Looks better now with the nice new green then before. Glad it made it Barb, I would plant it in the ground next year for it's reward!

Glad it survived...I didn't want to lose this little guy.
