Enough about my long sought-after Christmas palm seeds...
Here's John's gorgeous plants at his place:
It was so warm, protection enclosures were opened/tipped up to allow air/sun in.

And the following pic shows a really good idea.
If your box/pot isn't quite tall enough for the root system, just add a strip of lawn edging (the strong thick one) around the perimeter, and the soil can be higher up.

Tons of fabulous palms and bananas and aloes etc.
Wish my camera had a wide angle lens to capture the sheer volume of healthy specimens John has, even after selling lots of them.
Thanks for your hospitality John, and the seeds (can I take my gloves off now? 😆 😆 )

Oh, boy! I wished I have such a mild winter in my town at 43 North... Looks like you enjoy these above freezing days, Barb and John. Very nice Brachea armata! BTW I bought mine a couple of days ago. It was a kind of the New Year gift made to myself...

HAPPY NEW YEAR, everyone!!!!
Mike, can I ask you what that bush is behind the baby bananas? Pyracantha maybe?
Thanks,

Yes it is Rob. Pyracantha. Green all year, small clusters of white flowers in April and May....swarms of orange berries August through January. Great show plant.

Thanks, Mike. It is just beautiful. Also, its leaves are quite large and look more oval than the regular variaties. Actually, your bush seems more exotic with that look.
I have seen a couple of sturdy Pyracantha varieties in Oakville, South Ontario. If not trained, they tend to become leggy. I have seen gorgeous trellises of 5 m (15 feet) tall in England, only with this plant, pruned to a very dense, 5 inch thick wall...
