Here is a site I stumbled across while researching other plants. I particularly liked the Bananas, Palms, and Cycads. This father and son team have some very rare variegated plants.

I certainly understand how one can go overboard and take the fun out of a hobby. Those gents have an unbelievable collection of plants.

Kent in Kansas
where it's cold in winter (always)
and hot in summer (usually)

Steve that Washy caught my eye right away. I wonder how these guys collect all these plants being that they are so rare. Hmm.

Neat site, John.
Is it also rare that Washy has so few "threads"?

Interesting comment that they're quitting because their hobby takes more time than their full-time jobs.
I cannot imagine a plant enthusiast EVER quitting.

Wonderful that a father/son share the plant passion.

I haven't totall quit, just slowed down considerably. Try moving hundreds of plants around during back to back hurricanes and freak freezes!!
By the way the variegated Washingtonia was found in .....Lowes. All you have to do is look hard and you'll find them.

Randy, good for you for slowing down!
We Canadians are obviously not alone re freak weather.

When these big box stores arrive/arrived in Canada (no Lowes yet in the west I think), we seem to get the "dregs" of plant selection. I found a Hyophorbe lagenicaulis in the bargain bin...it took a year to die despite my best efforts with humidity, etc.

If the big stores brought to Canada the stuff you folks get "down there", I'd sit on their doorstep and wait for the truck.

We're fortunate to have so many Home improvement stores and local nurseries to wade through looking for variegates. As we speak I have a few dozen Burmese Fishtail Palm (Caryota Mitis) variegates sprouting showing great variegation already. I'm just concentrating on Palms and trees for now.
Take care.

Randy, can I please pick your brain on ID of this variegated plant?
I've long ago forgotten its name.

Thanks!
