I've been at the Tulsa Zoo this week for a day camp for kids I'm running, "science at the zoo."
It focuses on animals, of course, but I had to work my hero, Jay, in. He is the head horticulturist and so basically gets paid to do what we do as a hobby.
Photo 1 is him in front of pot-planted pachypodium.
The rest of the photos show Sabal minor blooming. They saw -12 F on Feb. 10 and were leaf-killed to the snow line, but fine below the snow. Jay cut off dead/dying fronds (aesthetics). They are growinhg fast and flowering now.

He has several huge pachypodium, and reports that they are "not easy" to bring into the greenhouse each October. 😆 😆 😆

I can well believe that, Erik.
He'd have to wear a suit of armor and a helmet 😆

Have they ever bloomed for him?
Pachypodium lamerei blossoms are breathtaking, and resemble Plumeria.

Part of me wants to volunteer to help bring in his plants in October.
But maybe not his pachy....
Yes, they bloom. He makes everything look easy! 😡

Great pics, Erik! I've seen some pics of the Tulsa Zoo minors before, on a couple of other boards. They always look great considering the temps they go through!

They are naturalizing in those beds, and the little strap-leaf palms all look perfect (snow...).
The ones Jay dug up and gave me in September all died of transplant shock here, though.

When his pachypodiums flower, please snap a pic if you're there.

Thanks!

Are you saying they don't overwinter outside there???

Hmmm-

Gonna have to rethink buying your house now 😉

Erik,

gets paid to do what we do as a hobby.

The way things are not growing/sunburnt for me this year, I'd starve if the hobby was paid 😆

Jim,
Erik will want to move to your place where a Pachypodium can stay outside
At least for one year... 😆
