Here is an example of how fast T.takil grows. I will keep calling them Takil because they are very diferent from T.fortunei at the same age and older. They will be planted in 2 years to see their cold hardiness vs T fortunei. The photos show 8 months of growth.

Very cool 8)
I call them Takil as well 🙂 If they are the same as T. fortunei then they are a very cool hybrid of the sp. 🙂

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Aaron the next step is to see if they are 3f to 5f cold hardier than fortunei. Not many people growing Trachies out of a zone 8 never mind a T. takil. The zone denial goes on....Till?

Me too. 😀
hey Jay...nice needles!...what do you do with them over the winter?
what temps do you try and keep them at over the winter months?..I have 4 trachys (2 to 3 feet in height)-1st year. Their all potted in the ground and the cool temps haven't seemed to faze them....I'll bring them in when the temps dip to 0C. My climate zone is Toronto Z6 or so..
Palmettoman..........
Jay,
Nice takils...(your needle pics looked good), where do you keep these during the winter months?
John,
I like your tornado pic! Looks just like the one that went through (very close to) town here the other day 8)

Palmettoman I will be bringing all my palms in this winter to my carport with suplemental lighting. Next spring the needles will be planted as will be T. fortunei. They will be protected for the first 2 years. Aaron the tornado is a very rare site for the Okanagan Valley. I wouldn`t want to see them get any bigger than that one pictured.
