Received newsletter from the Pacific Northwest Palm Society.

There's a stunning slideshow of an oceanfront garden with palms, yuccas, dicksonia, largest-leaf rhodo and many many others:

Hope this link will work for everyone:

...kinda makes me wonder why I ever moved away from the Coast 😯 😯

EDIT: This is the Caron Gardens website (the owner of the Sechelt tour property)

I think that picture from the dining room looking out over the lake says it all... stunning 8) Its a shame they dont have access to the hardy Schefflera as they would do very well there.
The Dicksonia Australis are hardy here...just... provided we don't get long freezes but they can take -10C/14F as they did in my garden last Winter.Leaves brown at -5C/23F.
BTW why did you move away from Paradise... Work?

That is an amazing garden! Very healthy-looking plants. I like the large rhododendron. I should try that someday, perhaps. (even though rhododendrons are extremely common around here, I like them)

We wanted to get away from the incessant rain and horrendous traffic jams.
2.5 hours on the road every day for work, in 2nd gear, was infuriating.
Here we have 3-minute "traffic jams".
Only 10,000 population.

I wasn't "into" palms in those days unfortunately.
Today, I think I would fight leaving the Coast. 😆 😆

What's that saying about hindsight being "clear vision"? ha ha

Another priority was to raise our child in rural desert country...skiing in winter and lake activities in summer.

the large rhododendron

Had never seen one until that photo.

Quite the property, isn't it?
Guessing that it's worth about 2-3 million bucks. 😯

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Nice post, Barb. It was great to see the Dicksonia and Eucs, but I'm surprised there was no A. araucana planted!

I'm sitting in my living room looking at what seems to be another sudden freeze after a short thaw in the GTA. Ontario is surely not a nice home for outdoor palm trees. I'm so tired of snow, ice and cold. Winter can be fun for the holidays but here it can snow well into April. I looked up Sechelt online and saw tall palm trees and amazing gardens. It is absolutely amazing what can be found on the west coast. It doesn't make sense to me that people on the east coast endure one snowstorm after another while there are palm trees in various coastal areas of BC. That's just insane! Excellent photos Barb.

MODS: The person who posted this is an imposter (i.e. not the real Paul in Ontario). They've started weather arguments on other boards, and I'd suggest that their IP should be noted, and then their profile banned immediately.

I wish... 😆

"my" designs always look better in my head.
