I was at the Zoo this week (for work). They have had Sabal minor in the ground for years, unprotected. One bed has seedlings popping up all over the place. Here is a cell phone snapshot I took of seedlings. I love that their Sabal minor flower, set seed and germinate with no assistance. These seedlings made it through last winter and are looking great now.

Perhaps offer to help when they're thinning... 😀

Barb,
I did, in October. The head horticulturists dug some and put them in a sack for me (photo). I planted them.
Most promptly died, but a couple are still green. 😀

Hope it wasn't the same guy digging them that planted the unnamed palm in the low spot under the glass roof... 😐

Uh, yes. He is a great guy who knows a lot about plants, but palms are not his specialty.

pretty cool that Sabal minor seelings are popping up under mom. Your about as far north as you can get for naturalization.

Does anyone have reports of Sabal minor naturalizing? Anecdotes? Forum threads?
