High time this was done as the root pic shows...there was no soil left in the pot!

Not a very pretty pot...but it'll do.

I had initially planned to soak the roots in water, removing all soil, and try to separate this grouping into 3 trees.
But those roots would never have been separated without damaging all three.

PS--yes, that green thing growing at the base is a GARLIC 😆 (my feeble attempt to get rid of fungus gnats and other creepy crawlies inside this winter).

Barb that foxtail palm wiil do great now that it`s feet have room to grow. Good idea about planting garlic in the pot as well. You might be on to something? I`m going to try it as well.

Yup, I was amazed that there was NO soil in the pot...all roots.

Hey, that garlic hasn't done bugger all...including draping Bounce sheets, etc. all over the basement this winter.

Still got tons of bugs, but the house smelled nice and garlicky all winter

The garlic is a fun addition.
Maybe Zingiber officinale next? Couldn't hurt.

Back to Wodyetia. My local HD is offering them in 5 g pots for $35. Seems too good to be true. Is it possible? I always thought of them as rare/pricey.

Thanks!

Is ginger used to deter bugs?
Soon I'll have a farm in my living room 😆

They used to be very pricey...$35 is dirt cheap for these beauties.
Prices have come way down since North American planted Wodyetia started producing seeds years ago.

Barb are those the Foxtails you started last year? Mine still look like snails with a 5" green pick sticking up out of them - no leaves yet. Getting excited though.

Paul,
Here are the Foxtail babies, stuck away around the corner.
Too busy to look after them much.

The 6-footer was a "find" at a nursery...as though I don't have enough with the little guys, ha ha.

<a href=" http://www.flickr.com/photos/southslope/5790076329/" title="DSC04753 by edible_plum, on Flickr"><img src=" " width="500" height="375" alt="DSC04753"></a>

Jesse, re that sunshine potting mix, can't find my pic right now but it's on here somewhere.
The "aggregate" one has the best drainage, I think it was Mix #4 ?

Sort of, Paul...
Many have some scale and lately a bit of sunburn 😕

It's hard to win with pristine palms at this game... 😕
