This is what happens when you put 50 Christmas lights on a palm & forget to turn them off... I just about killed it, but it is coming back nicely now... (Encephalartos trispinosus behind it & Meyer lemon behind that.)
Laaz - whats your plan with the queen? In just a couple of years, it will be way too big for Christmas lights. Thats both good and bad.
Do you know what these lyrics are from ; "send lawyers gun and money the s..t has hit the fan. Oh get me out of this"

Hi Kent. Queens do well in my area. It really didn't need protection this winter but I did just the same... We will see next winter....
I was gonna say ... no need for much in the way of suplimental winter protection in your area Todd. You guys have plenty of awesome looking palms, mature and new. Even a cold night will rebound nicely and is a distant memory in no time.
With a full season or two behind it, your "Queen" will be a nice established palm.
Cheers, Barrie.
P.S. Give those Xmas lights away to some of the cold climate gardeners 😆
It's barely noticeable Todd.
Kent...explain (please?)

Barb it was over 8 ft last fall. My son came home from a friends one day & asked what smelled out front... When I went out the fronds were burned brown & smelled like S%&T... I had to cut it way down & gave it a few treatments of Hydrogen peroxide.
Thanks Barrie it will bounce back nicely this summer. I have some silver queens as well starting to split their leaves.
Todd,
From 8 feet...ouch.
But that root system will be putting out frond after frond in no time.
Have you ever tried the Thrive/Superthrive B Vitamin products?
It's like a tonic for plants that have been damaged.
Sounds like you and I are both "poster people" for $4.95 timers!

Barb the only thing in ST that the plant can use is the B Vitamin. If you ask me it's snake oil... I use vitamin B on new transplants as it helps the roots...
Agree it's snake oil because of the price.
But Vit B (whatever the number is) sure seems to help my "suffering" plants.
Hell, maybe I should take it 😆 😆 😆

2 things ;
1. first of all I plead ignorance, I had no idea that a queen palm could survive a winter in Charleston SC.
b. second of all, yesterday was Warren Zevon day in my office ( I declared it Warren Zevon day) I played Warren Zevon songs most of the day. the lyrics I posted were from a favorite song of mine. see the youtube.com video ; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5puAN1PGQw
sorry for the confusion. I was a little giddy yesterday and just wanted to check Laaz's Warren Zevon quotient.
THANKS.

Ha ha, Kent, you're a hoot!
You're the innocent bystander, I bet. 😉
