Chamaedorea elegans
The local box store was having a 2 for 1 sale, so into the car they went 😀

Starting to put on some height too,

Steve

Nice size Steve.
Are you going to collect pollen?

Hi Barb,

I probably will try to collect and store some, ( at least for the learning experience)

Storing pollen is likely its own science.
Just think of the opportunities! 😀

Craig,
this is an excellent document on pollen collection/storage.
http://www.plantapalm.com/vce/horticulture/pollen.htm

or as Paul Lynde would've said 20 years ago on Hollywood Squares "With a teensy weensy little bucket".
Couldn't resist that.

Looks like I will have enough chances to try.

Steve,
surprised to see that Cat NOT in the fish pond. 😆

My Cat palm is still in the house, suffering big time, but the Reed (Bamboo) palm (which has similar cultural requirements) surprised me by looking as good as the day I bought it.

Steve I think I can say North central Kansas at Tescott will have a large conservatory of some of the most exotic species of Palms and Cycads anywhere. Steve keep up the great work. Feel free to send some of those seeds north of the 49th.

John,

Thanks!, as soon as some are ready, they will be on their way 8)

Barb,

It would have been in the water if I had just a little more space...... 😀

Looks great without sitting in water, which I thought was almost a necessity.

Barb,

As a comparison, the ones in the water seem to be growing at a continuous rate, while the ones in soil are showing a seasonal pattern.

My setup includes aeration and water movement, not sure how well these would do otherwise.

Good point.
They obviously prefer moving water, as your setup proves.

Barb,

Early on, tried some in a standing water environment, they went into a slow decline.

Raising the oxygen level in the water seemed to help, then enough water movement to allow nutrients to settle through the potting medium and everything was happy 8)

The fish, the algae, and the plants all seem to be in balance now.
