Great pics John.
Bet that gunnera is suffering from weed-n-feed applied to the lawn, looks fairly weed-free.

That seems like a good possibility Barb,it also seems(from the looks of the grass) like maybe it has
not rained all that much?

Thanks Scott and Barb,Erik. Jim & Barb. I had seen many other Gunnera with the same browning of the leafs throughout our tour. Maybe the Gunnera are just nutrient deficient or just slowly disacarding older leaf sets,or drought. Barb I picked up a two gal. Agave americana variegated cheap ,and many other flowering sp. from our friend in North Vancouver. Tsawwassen had palms in every four out of ten homes in the neighborhoods we drove through. More than a few people were checking us out as we happily snapped pics of the palms. A couple just shaking their heads? "LOL"

Great score getting the A.americana, John.
40 per cent of homes have outdoor palms?...wonderful!
It's ironic now that I live in the Okanagan--and its cold winters--that I'd like to have Pacific Coast winters.
Yet didn't care a hoot to grow a palm outdoors when I lived in Vancouver 😕
...guess some people just like extreme challenges 😀
