Absolutely stunning, Steve, great germinating work (as though it's work for you! 😀 )
I notice your early pots for B.nobilis aren't as tall as the PVC pipes--sawn lengthwise--you used last year.
Are you testing results between potting heights?
And that L.grandis...what can I say about my second fav palm... 🙂
B.capitata...what would happen if you left the two growing from one seed? wouldn't they grow as twins?
I've heard the Louisianas will outgrow everything for a couple of years.
They all look so healthy!
Thanks for taking the pics!

Barb,
Thanks for the comments!
The other Bismarkias are in the tall containers, these are being kept on a mesh bench with the roots air pruning as they grow out.
Going to compare these against the others and see what kind of difference it makes.
The Butia is two separate plants drawing nourishment from the same seed, (Butia can have up to three embryos in the same seed), once the seed is depleted, they will detach themselves & grow on.

It'll be really interesting to see your results, especially since tall narrow seedling pots are expensive and generally hard to come by.
I've heard of nurseries using copper on their benches to result in the same "root pruning".
Once the Butia detach themselves, wonder if one will be more robust than its twin.
We'll watch for it. 🙂

very nice variety of palms you are growing. Do you ever wonder what your place would look like if you lived in southern florida.?I mean honestly, how could you pick 20-25 palms to plant in your yard.
Kent in Kansas
where it's cold in winter (always)
and hot in summer (usually)
<object width="290" height="130"><param name="movie" value="http://www.wunderground.com/swf/pws_mini_rf_nc.swf?station=KKSOVERL7&freq=2.5&units=english&lang=EN" /><embed src="http://www.wunderground.com/swf/pws_mini_rf_nc.swf?station=KKSOVERL7&freq=2.5&units=english&lang=EN" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="290" height="130" /></object>
...and not a brown or yellow leaf edge to be seen!
well done.
That bamboo palm's curl looks great. I notice you call it C. seifrizii.
By coincidence I was looking up the name of my "Reed Bamboo Palm" (yet another nursery label blooper).
It said Bamboo Palm was Chamaedorea microspadix, and
Reed Palm was Chamaedorea seifrizii.
So I probably have a C.microseifradix--ii... 😆 😆
Have you a record of HOW MANY varieties of palms you've germinated?

Kent, Yard? If I lived in South Florida, it would be a jungle 😀
Barb, Bamboo & Reed Palm seem interchangeable between 2-3 Chamaedorea species, I guess the nursery tags sort of narrow it down 😆
I'm not too good at keeping records, but seem to have gone through a bit of seed. I keep things on a budget, most purchases have been inexpensive, and have done a fair amount of trading.

I'd hazard a guess, though, that you've started 100! (types, not quantity)
I could not have viewed so many delightful plants in 30 books, Steve.
Thanks for this!
