Jay, That Butia in the pic. was planted as a small 2 gallon size in the Spring of 1995. There is another larger one in that same garden. Cheers, Joe

I love arabesque scenes like this... what a sharp contrast, looking at the boreal forests across the water, through your palms and Cordylines...

Joe those are picture post card photos of Palms near the ocean! Looks very tropical with the white sandy beach, cove ,clear water.

All of the white beaches on our island appear to be sand, but they are actually crushed shells. That garden where I took that pic. was a friend of mine's. He sold it to a nice couple from Alberta over a year ago. They only come out once in a while. I still go down there to take pics. and collect seeds. Tha gal that now owns the place told me I am more than welcome to visit the garden as much as I want. That area of our island is extremely mild in the Winter and seeing what grows in that garden is believing. There are several big Cordylines over 20'ft tall. Two large Butias, T.wagnerianus. Livistona c., Chamaedoreas, Big Acacia melanoxylon, Eucalyptus, Timber bamboo, Two of the nicest Chamaerops I've seen anywhere on our coast Also numerous T.fortunei, Phormiums, Bananas , Sabal palmetto, Sabal minor and more. The crushed white shell beach with it's south west facing exposure and full sun all day make it perfect for growing the most marginal plants. The Fremontia in that garden is a large tree. There are also some nice trunked Yuccas and Opuntia cactus growing nicely. Being that close to the ocean really moderates the winter temps. That area is milder than my place by usually 1.5 C. or more in the Winter. That sometimes makes a world of difference what you can or can't grow. It's just to bad I didn't have an extra million bucks when it was for sale. Cheers, Joe

Hmmm... if it was for sale i would buy it but then i would only have a couple million left in my bank account. 😆 just kidding.

Now if i won the lottery and it was for sale then i would buy it and turn it into a palm haven where all you guys could come over and enjoy the palms and even plant some of your own. 😀
