Nice job Scotty-
How about a 35g plastic T-can in your Washy hut filled with water, that will help keep the temp in your Washy hut steady.
Edit-Not to mention send your heater floating away if it falls over 😯

Scotty, Things are looking good. We've been fortunate not to have a really hard freeze yet (though I did hit -4 in Syd.).
Check out the pics I snapped this past weekend at Clint's in niagara. It's humbling to see what can really grow in the 6b/7a borderline areas of the province.

A 35 gallon plastic trash can full of water-10 bucks at Wal-mart(have those there?)that would be a lot of mass for keeping your Washy hut's temp even during winter.

Your magnolia's trying to bloom? 😯
kiss it goodbye.
Everything looks good. Rhodos too!!!! I couldn't keep a rhodo alive if someone paid me to.
Are you digging up--or protecting--that Sago?
Maybe a leaf basket?
Yup...nice fence Scotty.
Gonna look around for Paul's pics re Niagara. Are they on PN?

Barb,
The Niagara pics are on the Northeast subtropicals board, sort of a specialists board for people from New England, Eastern Canada, and a few other locations. All are welcome to post, but there isn't really a moderator anymore.
The link to the board is here:

Thanks for that interesting link Paul.
Nice pics on there.

Thanks Barb... Cool pics from Niagara Fall eh! Yeah it bloomed then died the next day. Yeah I'm not sure what to do with the sago... Not too luck with the Rhodos??

Scotty,
Awwwww, don't let the sago die (please).
Maybe dig that sago and pot up??? rather than no protection for winter.
At least invert a big garbage can over it, topped with a brick re wind, stuff the garbage can full of crumpled up newspapers.
I'd hate to see such a nice one gone.
BTW great looking cordylines (or? the purple thingies).
Rhodos?
Requirements: acid soil, no wind, filtered sun/mostly shady when temps are hot, lots of rain.
All the things the Okanagan HASN'T GOT.
I've killed two Rhodos whose labels said "Okanagan hardy". 👿

Don't worry Barb I won't let it die.. I'll figure out something this weekend.. I also need to get some protection ready for my Magnolia..

Hi Guys and Gals...Quick Question. How do you walk the line between keeping palms warm in an enclosure in winter and getting too moist and risking fungus/bacteria? Thanks.

The palm hut is only kept at 5 celcius. I spray my plants palms with Bordo Copper Spray before I cover them. Helps with fungus..
