What a warm summer we have had in Southern Ontario! Plants in the garden have really enjoyed it!!

Front side garden

Getting ready to bloom again

Rhodo's are twice as big as last year

Banana about five feet, hasn't grown as much the past couple of weeks

Castor Bean about 12 feet tall

Oleander has grown like crazy this summer. I will be trying to overwinter it

Other banana about 6 feet tall

Washy that spent last winter in the palm hut has put out 6 fronds this year
Magnolia I overwintered this past winter

Bamboo on 3rd cane

My fav palm of all!!

Thanks for looking!!

Scott

Hey Scotty,
Great to see this picture update.
I almost can't believe that back garden bed is the same one you showed us this spring! Amazing growth.

You'd never know that Washy was moved...six fronds! Obviously loves its new spot.

The palm bed at the stairs is super nice... 😀

What a productive year for you.

Scotty,
you sure have had a great Summer.
You bananas look super.
And of course that colossal new Trachy is stunning.
I know none of us really want to think about it yet, but when you do your winter protection (what's that? 😯 ), please make a video.

Very nice dude!, hope for a winter like last year, and everything will be fine ( more snow too!!)

Arent there soem Magnolia native to southern ontario? Yours looks right happy.

IS that a Phyllostachys Aureosulcata? I have one here, shipped really bad, every leaf was burnt, it didnt do a thing, then 2 months later, 13 new culms 😀

Grats again dude, keep up the good work!!

They put out the winter report on accuweather.. check it out.. http://www.accuweather.com/blogs/anderson/story/35768/long-range-model-forecast-out-to-february-2011-1.asp Looks pretty good for Southern Ontario, a little snowly for the north...

I don't think we have any Magnolia Grandifora that are native to southern ontario.. I believe the deciduous type are (someone can correct me)..

I believe that is the type of Bamboo I have.. You have 13 canes coming out!! Crazy!! Do you protect in the winter?? What zone are you in?? Thanks for the comments!!

Im in zone 4 or 5, nw ontario...... and its a new planting, this year in may.... The thing looked horrible when i got it, the culms are smaller then the ones that were originaly there, so im assuming this is due to the damage during shipping. I have a fargesia rufa that survived here, so this will be no problem ( I hevily protected it)

Ah, didnt know if yours was diciduous or not, but that answered my question LOL thanks

Your yard is stunning Scotty! Really has come a long way since the beginning of summer! I love the Magnolia - I've thought about adding one too and also a bamboo.
Your favorite Trachy looks awesome and so does the Washy!

Very inspiring! 😀

Only Magnolia acuminata is native to Ontario. It is a massive deciduous tree that doesn't have flowers that are attractive as other 'garden centre' hybrid Magnolias... The trees are native to a narrow band between Niagara and Windsor, south of the 401 (Basically hugging the Lake Erie shore).

Things a looking good Scotty! You've made some huge strides in a short time!
